I have been on the board for awhile now and I need to know if my type Baptist is welcome here any longer. I do not want to be where I am not wanted. I confess to be a Southern Baptist and believe all the doctrine of the SBC but I also believe the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the church today and I speak in tongues as the Spirt of God gives the utterance.
I will abide by the decision made on this poll and if the majority want me to leave, I shall leave. Thank you.

Brother Fat, I can only speak for myself. I don't have a problem with anyone who calls themselves a baptist posting and participating in discussions. Most baptists (myself included) do not see your interpretation of the gift of tongues in the bible, but I will confess I have been known to be wrong from time to time. But not often. ;)

I had an experience once that I was at a loss to explain without the action of the Holy Spirit. I do believe that the Spirit is working in the church today, and in a way that is more active than most baptists would care to believe. However, there are certainly counterfeits of the work of God being perpetrated on God's people, making merchandise of them to line the pockets of dishonest men who claim to be men of God. They will appear before the Lord, same as everyone else to give account.

Of course you're welcome here. Hey, I used to be a Church of God minister. However, I did not agree with the pentacostal doctrines, thus I got out.

If you do not mind me asking there's something I want to know. Why don't you go to a pentacostal church if you are pentacostal/baptist? The reason I am wondering is I don't know how Baptistcostals are baptist, that is if they hold to the roots of pentacostalism. I'm just curious. Not trying to start a debate. I'm truly seeking an answer. Thanks. God Bless you.

    In Christ,

    Brooks

There is no such thing as a "bapticostal". Sorry.

If a person is pentecostal (as you defined - speaking in tongues, et al) then they are pentecostal.

This isn't a popularity vote. What people "think" about you being welcome or not is not an issue.

The requirements for being "welcome" are black-and-white, not touchy-feel. If you are born again and an active member of a Baptist church, you meet the stated requirements.

FAt EAgle - you are not believing anything which the first few generations of Baptists did not believe. So I hope you stay, since you are more of a true baptist than the ones who deny the gifts....they should be on the plymouth brethren board or the protestant board.

    Fat Eagle,
You may not be always right but you are always welcome in accordance with what the good Dr. stated above. My 2 cents.
(I know, I know my wife says if I had a dime I still wouldn't have any cents)
    Thanks --------Bart

If Bapticostals are not welcome, that would result in a number of suspensions from the BB! [IMG]

untangled: to answer your question. I have for many years attended Assembly of God churches, and the Church of God and I think they are wonderful Christians but unfortunately I do not agree with much of their doctrine especially the ones concerning the loss of salvation, women preachers, and others. I have always been a Baptist in my doctrine but I also happened to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and was blessed with the gift of tongues and other spiritual gifts and to me it is real and I thank God for this gift but I do feel more kin to the Baptist way of things and this is why I have rejoined the SBC ( conservatives). I still love all the brethren in the Pentacostal movement and fellowship with them on occasion.
If u do not mind could I ask you why you left the Church of God! Thanks

Dr. Bob I respectfully disagree with you. Just because someone believes in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and speaks in tongues does not make them Pentacostal only. I am more Baptist than Pentacostal and I should call myself a full Gospel Baptist.
I also am born again and go to a Baptist church. A true SBC and not one that has the gifts in operation but I go because I like the conservative message being preached.
There are many Baptist that speak in tongues and many in every denomination that have received the wonderful gift of tongues.

Thank you Dean for that welcome. You are right about the early Baptist and even the Methodist of old were fired up and danced in the spirit and to read accounts of their style of worship, they would have fit right in with the Pentacostals.

I agree with Dr. Bob. I am quite surprised that you are a member of an SBC church; we clearly do not believe the way you do. In fact I believe that we should start preaching more against what you believe. I would like to ask do you follow also the word of faith teachings....like Kenneth Copeland, John Hagee, etc......?

Thanks to all the great responses and the true spirit of a Christian prevailing here. I enjoy posting here and I really enjoy a good debate or spirited discussion as long as there is respect for individuals and their point of view wheather we agree or not and I have seen this on this board. The response have been overwhelming in favor of my type of Baptist being here, so I shall hang in there and hope to continue with some great discussions.

Will you answer the question I posed?

semsstudent. You could sure fool me for the SBC that I go to knows I am a Bapticostal and there are many more in the church and it is not even brought up. They welcome all believers in Christ to worship with them and put no test out to anyone.
They do not agree with the Pentacostal doctrine but do not get in the pulpit and berate these fine Christian folk and I do not expect them to for I know they are traditional Christians.
I am not looking for that anyhow, but I am looking for true Christian love and mercy and a good conservative message for this present evil world.
As for the faith teachers out there today. No I do not follow them or watch them because I do not believe everything they teach, but I do respect them for the most part and believe they are Christian brethren.
I dont see why anyone would find fault with Hagee for I have never heard him speak about Pentacostal beliefs and when I first saw him on TV I had to check to make sure he was not a Baptist for they look and act like them.

Hmmm? I do wonder? If these "bapticostals" have this gift of tongues, then would they please speak some tongues in script? Or is their "Holy Ghost" incapable?

Per se: Did Jesus Christ ever speak in "glossalalia"?

I believe the Truth according to Scripture, does this delegate my welcome in the BB? Certainly, if this were the PB, I would seriously doubt my welcome, but to introduce a poll to incorporate a "welcome" in the BB? [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
