Are church picnics sinful?

I would like to, but I don't get it?

Um I'm not sure what the last part of all that meant, but as to picnics, my church has them often. We're IFB, as well. But I'm not sure what that has to do with it. We have gatehrings on homecoming and anneversary sunday. We have surprise parties for our pastor and his wife. We have a Christmas gatehring after our play every year. Once a month we have a church wide fellowship and we cook out and bring home made food, and everyone plays outside.
I've yet to see a verse of the Bible saying it's wrong to have get to gethers. I'm not interested in what a person says, but what the Bible says.

Murder is a sin, adultery, covetousness, lying. But the Bible doesn't say that fellowship with believers is a sin.

You know Satan tries to deceive us by putting doubt in our minds about stupid stuff like this. Don't buy it. Don't even waste too much time thinking about it.

Unless you're doing human sacrifices over the barbeque or something like that. I think that church picnics are probably pretty safe.

I'm a Primitive Baptist and also the moderator of the Baptist History Forum... We are studying the Twelve Marks of the Apostolic Church and all are free to join in... I would like to ask the same question where is picnic you have reference to?... Brother Dallas and I are the only posters so far and I have seen no picnic and he didn't mention one.

Baptist over the centuries have had meetings with dinner on the grounds... Some very large meetings and associations as us Primitive Baptist call them. All Gods children have to be fed not of only spiritual food but from natural food also, but for you to be implying what you are I have not seen or was aware any posted of such.

I would not do such a thing and neither would any of the brethren that post with me... And I have gotten to know the brethren pretty well and where they stand... You have to show me what has disrupted our Baptist History Forum!... Brother Glen & Sister Charlotte

 

Is it possible that some of Hassell's work was read during one of those historical associational meeting picnics?

Just joking. I think what the original post is speaking of is the position on the purpose and use of such picnics.

We are missionary baptist and in this differ somewhat from the Primitive as a church, but our stand on this is that it is wrong to hold such picnics for the purpose of providing support for the church or any other work of the church such as mission work. These are all provided for by God.

Otherwise, I have yet to see a Baptist who was not in attendance on Homecoming day Sometimes I kid some of them and ask them if they ain't really Methodist???

Come on over to the history forum and throw your two cents worth into the fray; I am not an expert on history either so don't let that bother you. It is by discussion that we arrive at expertisism (is that a word?). There are so many isms going around that the suffix becomes a habitism.

I have yet to find my expertise, unless it could be said to be in key-boarding

Picnic: A meal eaten outdoors, as on an excursion.

What about the feeding of the 5,000?

We have lots of picnics! We have hot dogs and burgers when we invite the local kids to come and sign up for AWANA clubs or VBS. We also have a picnic at a local park once a year where church members bring their own meats and a dish or two to share. We play baseball, horseshoes, etc... and have a great fellowship. No money is made at any of these functions

A picnic is a gathering and eating and has NOTHING to do with money collection. Let's not take a wonderful outing and turn it into something satanic because some church somewhere made a buck off a fish fry.

I'm known for taking excellent "deviled eggs" to church picnics.

Perhaps that's what is evil?

Woe is me! I go every year.

Oh the shame! The singing, the praying, the fellowshipping (and sometimes the baptizing)!

My church has a picnic outing 2 or 3 times
a yr. We always enjoy the fellowships singing &
they even have horseshoe pitching & baseball games for the young one's & all sorts of things to enjoy & have a great time in the Lord..

I believe the Lord wants us to fellowship &
enjoy time with other believers...
