I can't really answer that poll. I'd say about as many professing Roman Catholics are Christian as professing Baptists are.

We see lots of standards being treated as doctrine around here, yet I rarely see anyone who follows those "stricter" standards accused of not being Christian because they add things. In fact, it's more often the other way around. I've heard Roman Catholics say the same things about us as we say about them.

    We're both half right.

Any RC that accepts their sotierology as the means to achieve reconciliation with God is not a biblical Christian.

Too hard to make such a sweeping generalization.

There are plenty of Catholics who are Christians just like there are plenty of Baptists who aren't.

Despite the drivel of Chuck Colson and Hank Haanegraff, Catholics are not saved.

If they are trusting in Jesus alone for their salvation, they are born again. If not, not.

In strong disagreement. I know many Catholics that are saved.

Really? You mean you can redefine God, Christ, salvation, the gospel, saints, etc, and still be saved? Wrong.

You will see Catholics in heaven, maybe not all of them, but you won't see all Baptists there, either.

Who can know ? Only God knows the heart. I will not be the one to say who's saved & who's not.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Catholics have the correct understanding of who Christ is, and his death and resurrection. Though they may build wrong things on the foundation, they have the right foundation and thus are saved, according to 1 Cor 3:11-15. I consider Catholics my brothers and sisters in Christ, even though I disagree with many of their practices.

BrianT, how is not accepting the sufficiency of Christ's atonement on our behalf not redefining Christ? The "Jesus" they call upon was not able to accomplish salvation. He was merely a part.

PreachTheWord, they do not redefine Jesus, nor have a different one as your quotation marks seem to indicate.

No thoughts on the passsages I posted?

Read what I wrote. I did not say there were no saved people within the RCC. However, their sotierology is so contrary to what scripture teaches that anyone who counts on it for salvation is lost.

I'm always told to be a christian you have to be a follower of Jesus. You must have faith in Him and Him alone. Catholics are puting there faith in Mary, the dead, preist, Nuns, and the so called holy father the Pope, not in Jesus . They actually belive Mary played an equal part in our salvation. so how can we say they put there trust in Jesus. Ill agree they know who Jesus is and what he has done but are they truely trusting in him. I was raised catholic and was never taught about salvation I was told I was saved because I had been baptised and recieved the sacrements. I was trusting in baptism the sacrements and the preist to forgive my sin not Jesus. Must catholics never truely humble themselfs to the lord and repent to be born again under there system . Under there man made doctorine they are born again by baptism as a child not by faith.

BrianT, this is a major difference:

I believe that Christ's work is complete.

They believe that Christ's work needs their help to complete.

How is that not a difference? That is redefining Christ.

Not that I agree with your understanding of their view of Christs work, is Christ's work not complete regardless? Does Rom 10:9 or 1 Cor 3:11-15 stop being true?

I learned about Catholics from my mother who was a Baptist.

I have learned in recent years that her beliefs about Catholics were not correct.

They read the same Bible we do, but have some added Books to their Bible.

I have not researched and compared all their beliefs, but I believe many of them are born again Christians.

Read what I wrote. I did not say there were no saved people within the RCC</font>[/QUOTE]I never said you did.

The poll only allowed for two choices:

    "Catholics are saved"/"Catholics aren't saved"

I coundn't answer to either one because I felt they were much too broad.

    That's all I said.
