These days many use smartphones and Tablets to read their bible but I have to wonder if these devices are taking away from bible memorization. When I go out witnessing I always have my Bible with me and have a number of verses memorized. Unfortunately very few in DT Denver actually want to discuss the Bible in conversation so my use of my memorized scripture comes when I open air preach. But imagine if I had grown up in the smartphone era and had only John 3:16 memorized? So what do you say?

The Gideons have introduced a splendid Bible app which gives the word of God in 100 different languages and dialects.
In the beautiful rural part of England where I live, almost everyone has English as his first language, but even here it is possible to witness to a Polish waitress and wish you had a Polish NT to give her. If she has a smartphone, she can find the whole Bible in her own tongue.

In London, the app will be even more beneficial as it is possibly the most polyglot city on earth, and there are plenty of people who barely speak English, much less read it. Finally, there are plenty of English-speaking people who don't like to read. That may not be great, but it's the way it is. With the app, they can listen to the Bible if they don't want to read it.

So in a word, what you say may well be true, but the plusses of making the Bible available on smartphones outweigh the minuses.
