First they put in a massive jungle gym swing and slide apparatus for the girls, and on Jay Leno, Obama says his wife has planted a garden behind the WH. And she has asked a public school first grade class to watch over the garden.
What will the White House look like when Obama loses the 2012 re-election?
Actually, it's kind of down home and folksy looking around there. And the Obama lovers that I know, think it's so "sweet" that the Obama's' are making the White House look lived in....give me a break!
I know they need to make it their home, but, are they "trashing" the White House with these "sweet little family projects?"
Let's hear what the Forum has to say about this.......
Shalom,

Where are a couple of the things that would really be worthwhile, namely a Basketball Court and a great place for Table Tennis? Why should not these sports be covered?? Since Pres. Bush (43) has had softball and T-ball on the W/H lawn and Pres. Kennedy had 'flag-football' games there, definitely why not these, as well?
I mean, for more than 50 years we have had places for both Horseshoes [Pres. Bush (41) and Truman were both very skilled at this.] and a putting green, for pitching, chipping, and putting (Of the last several Presidents through Obama, only Presidents Carter and Truman never needed any "tee-time" at the local links, although aside from Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Ford, and Obama, the 'Handicaps' and scorecards of the rest should likely be forever kept as a 'State secret'. Thankfully, the Secret Service apparently never did allow Pres. Ford to practice his 'Driver', though.
That coulda' been somewhat dangerous for unwary passers-by! :smilewinkgrin
; a Billiards Room for almost 200 years (Pres. Monroe was literally of championship quality, and could wield a cue-stick as well as Pres. Jackson could wield a cane.); and a Swimming Pool [Pres. John Kennedy was an excellent swimmer, as were also Pres. Bush (41), and Ford, and Pres. Carter and Nixon also were quite familiar with the water.] (Ya' gotta' think about a few of those above, for a minute, maybe!)
A garden for the First Lady? First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt also had her own 'Victory Garden' at the White House, the Clintons grew 'containerized vegetables' on the White House roof, and the 'Rose Garden' has effectively been there for more than a century. Initially, this garden area had its own clotheslines, even. I believe, there have been some other 'Presidential' flower and vegetable gardens, as well, but am not sure of the specifics on this.
A Swing and slide set for the Presidential daughters? Why not? Amy Carter had a tree house. (Did Pres. Carter build this himself, foreshadowing his future work with Habitat for Humanity?)
Stables have been (or were) around the White House for longer than automobiles, and besides dogs and cats, many other animals have been there, including chickens, pigs, sheep (Wilson was, I believe the last Pres. to have sheep), and cattle (Taft was apparently the last Pres. to have a cow, there). President Kennedy had "Macaroni", the pony for John. Jr. and Carolyn at the White House, and Pres. Taylor's favorite horse grazed the W/H lawn, as did the elephants of Pres. Buchanan. (Now those babies would
really call for a king-size "
er Scooper" I'd say!)
As to 2012, may I remind one that 8 of the 44 Presidents to date died before completing a term in office, and four of the 8 deaths were due to natural causes. In addition, 4 other Presidents who could have run again for another term, but chose not to for their own various reasons (Pres. Washington, Polk, Arthur, and Coolidge), would not have lived to see that term completed. "President of the United States" and "old-age" have not necessarily been synonomous terms by any stretch, even though 4 have reached the age of 90, two more have topped 85, and both Presidents Carter and Bush (41), will hit 85 in only a few months.
In summary, I am no particular fan of many, if not most, of the political ideas and positions advocated by President Obama. I have seen absolutely nothing to improve my own view on this in these two months, thus far. But the implications and insinuations contained in the OP are 'hitting below the belt' IMO.
