Are you a Baptist if...

The first church I belonged to was a community church. They were always Baptistic in practice, it just took them about two years to change the name of the church. I think you can be Baptist in a no-named church, some just don't want to hold the name.

What is a Baptist? Is it not a person who believes in the Baptist distinctives. One can be a Baptist and still attend another church.

Not all of us have a Baptist church within reasonable reach. The Baptist Board calls for one to be a Baptist, and does not say that we must attend a church that says Baptist.

There are some Baptist churches I would just as soon not attend.

God bless you in finding a church that honours the Lord Jesus Christ and lifts Him up; reaches out to the world, and serves your spiritual needs.

Post on the Baptist forums? I do, as do others, who also attend other than churches with the name Baptist on the notice board.

Ok, along the lines of this topic I have question.

What constitues a Baptist for posting in the Baptist only forums? I attend a church that split from a Baptist church over some issues. It was decided becasue there are already two Baptists churches within the direct vacinity of our church not to put Baptist in the name of the church but instead to call it a community church (I disagree with this, but thats what happened). We hold to Baptist doctrine in everything (and persoanlly I do becasue I feel it's what the bible teaches) but they won't put Baptists in the name no matter how much I tell the Pastors they should.

Am I still allowed to post on the baptist only boards?

I am a Seventh Day Baptist, Yet there isnt a fellowship near me yet, So I fellowship with the Church of God Seventh Day, Yet I consider myself a Baptist.

Baptist could be seen to be with the beliefs of the Baptist type church. I differ with COG7 on their non Trinatarian stance and the Soul sleep doctrine. My doctrine is compatible with the accepted Baptist doctrine. I would say that being a baptist is what you feel you are.

 

My church has the name "blah blah blah Community Church". It also has the letters "SBC" on the shingle.

Apparrantly, this had caused some consufion, because the phrase "community church" had been used mostly by churches of the Reformed Church in America", so there have been some people coming in who thought we were an RCA church. (They had used the name to disaccociate themselves with the negative stereotypes of the reformed mvement).

I prefer that the denomination be in the name, but I don't feel it's a requirement.

 

I grew up in a Baptist Church and now I am going to a Non Denominal Christian Church. There are a few things that differ here then what I grew up with, but it is relativley the same. The doctrine is the same for sure! But I must admit I am a "Baptist" at heart and occasionally sneak into to a few Baptist churches around me to get some "Fire & Brimestone" preaching. LOL
Not that they are all like that. I am blessed with at least 15 different churches less then a mile from me and like to visit other denominations also.
So be it Baptist or Non Denominal as long as they teach the correct doctrine of God's word I enjoy them all. I have to admit I do not visit the Mormon or Roman Catholic Church by me.

You know if you're a Baptist or not. I don't believe you need to attend a Baptist church to hold that moniker. You may be back sliding or just choosing to attend another church, but you're still a Baptist if you are one in your heart.

I think being a Christian can be accomplished in any church...and the core of adhering to the Bible should outweigh the importance of being Baptist. It is what is important.
