Are you referring to the Duk Koo Kim fight? That was 100% on the referee. He should have stopped that fight a couple of rounds earlier.

But Mancini was never the same after that, and who could blame him?

I am not as much into it as I once was, but I do love the sweet science.

Holmes vs Spinks 2 was a travesty.

Sad to hear of Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker dying after being struck by a car as he was walking. :(

I did not turn on the television that day to watch what I saw and I did not want to see anything like that again. That's just me.

Baptist pastors used to preach against it!

    San Francisco Call
    , November 25, 1907, p 12:

"Sawyer Brands Pugilism as Relic of Uncivilized Age

'Our Municipal Disgrace—the Prize Fight' was the subject chosen for a sermon by Rev. Louis J. Sawyer, pastor of the Hamilton Square Baptist Church, yesterday morning. The prize fight was characterized, as [a] blemish on our civilization. Not only the fighters and their backers but the men who take part in the sport were scored."

I was much younger. My grandmother called it heathenism. She was correct. Havent watched it in 30 yrs?

My daughters friend in HS is a pro boxer. Unfortunately, he is w Don King

Is boxing “loving your neighbor” when the object is to injure him?

Have had zero interest since Ali was fighting Frazier. However, when I first got interested in professional sports (mid 50s) a heavyweight title fight was pretty much the biggest single sporting event in the US. The World Series in total was considered to be bigger, but that's 4 to 7 events. Other than pay-per-view, is boxing even televised widely today?

I watched boxing when I was younger. Got away from it over time. Only so much I can spend time watching and it got pushed aside by other things over the past 30 years.

Used to be. My dad was a boxer in the Navy and then taught boxing for years at the YMCA.

I boxed a little, but I was too into baseball and football to really devote myself to it. Besides, I'm too pretty to get hit in the face.

Used to be a huge fan and watched the fights with my dad every Friday night. A bunch of his kids from the Y fought in the AAU, so we would go see them.

I remember when Ali would fight. It was an event.

I don't think I've watched a match in twenty years.

It's neither loving your neighbor, nor not loving your neighbor. It's not assaulting someone. It's a competition with mutually agreed upon rules.

If one of the competitors cheats, or purposely tries to injure his opponent, apart from the already understood injury of being punched in the face, that wouldn't be very loving of his neighbor. But for two men to agree to have a face punching competition is fine.

Ali’s mother was from my home town, I remember that I was in 8th grade and he came there for some reason and it was a huge deal- think 1974 at the height of his fame

Anyways, I didnt know about it until the Monday after. I was very bummed. I was a huge fan of his and he was who I mocked my trash talking after.

The intent is to do bodily harm to your opponent

Then you shouldn't be a boxer, since you don't understand the rules.

Am I a boxing fan? Not that much, but sometimes I do need a fan when I'm boxing things up.

I used to like heavy weights, but heavyweight is now a joke. I did like Sugar Ray vs Marvelous Marvin Haggled, even though they were not heavy weight,

That is the rules. Knock out always has bodily harm involved. A knock out is the only way you be sure you win.
