Are You Ashamed or Embarrassed by God's Wrath?

It seems that some on BB are not happy with the idea that God condemns sinners. Of course He is merciful and takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but do you really believe the horrors of Hell? Do you really believe He is a "consuming fire"?

Is the God who condemns to Hell worthy of praise? Are His judgements right? Are you just as happy to talk about His wrath than you are His mercy - honestly?

"Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." - John 3:18 ESV

There is a legitimate concern over the doctrine of "non-violent atonement" as expressed by people like Denny Weaver. It seems many are questioning (rightly so, IMO) where some have taken penal substitution, but they are "throwing out the baby with the bathwater" by reject even the idea of God's wrath against unrighteousness. Peter is very clear, I think anyway, that those who caused Christ's suffering and death did so in ignorance and that it was the will of God.

This is the concern that spurred the SBC to write a resolution regarding the topic. Too often one error pushes people to an equal error in the opposite direction.

Not "just as ready" -- I prefer to talk about the Gospel solution to the Lake of Fire and brimstone torment. But I do admit to a literal hell, literal torment, literal fire and brimstone in a literal Rev 20 lake of fire that other Bible writers call Hell.
