Tonight, the entire Laker team had an "I can't breathe" strip sewn on their uniforms! This recent show of solidarity is filtering down to pro teams in the NFL & NBA, and while I have no problem with them doing this outside off the field or basketball court. But to use their team status as a bully pulpit, well, it's just a little too much.

So, what are your thoughts on this trend by pro athletes?

Hey it's a free country and I guess it's OK, but we all need to take it for what it is, guys that for the most part are physically gifted enough to entertain the masses who are lucky enough to get on TV. It is like the guy who used to wear the rainbow afro and a T-shirt that had "John 3:16" on it at Baseball games. Remember him? I guess if I was lucky enough or gifted enough to be on TV a lot, I would try and share Jesus however I could. Am I derailing this Paul? Sorry!!!

You could never derail this thread. Wait and watch for what derailing a thread is about.

Great thoughts. I have to agree in some ways with your view.

Who really cares? It is like actors spouting out about politics.

I would be curious, though, to know how many of them have criminal records.

It does not matter if I agree with them or not. The last time I checked the 1st amendment applied to everyone. Thus, it is their right to make their feelings known.

If you say they do not have that right then you do not believe or support the Constitution.

    Spectators is one thing.

A game being played is not the time nor the place as the players represent the team AND the League.

I used to think you were better than this. I guess nothing should surprise me about some of the members on this board. They can't resist poking their finger in another members eye. :wavey: Cute cat by the way - MEOW

Which neither the teams or the league seemed to care about. The Rams chose not to punish the players and neither did the NFL. The Cavaliers and the Lakers do not care that Lebron and Kobe are wearing "I can't breathe" shirts. They also just wore the shirts during the shootaround prior to the game. I mean it wouldn't make much of a statement if they just wore the shirt in their living room would it?

It's sports not the Army. People have opinions and make public statements. Welcome to America.

Wonder how it would affect other such demos if the entire spectator group had just walked out upon the appearance of such idiocy????
'Fraid society is is too indoctrinated into PCism to do anything that radical.

If their employer is OK with it, then they can do whatever they like. Personally, I don't put any stock in their comments or displays.

I'm from the "shut up and play" school.

I'm not interested in the opinions of the mental midgets of the NBA.

Why do you think people that play in the NBA are stupid? People have opinions on social issues. Including celebrities. They aren't mindless drones. You'll be ok.

If the team ownership and the league don't object, they are free to do it. If you don't want them wearing messages on themselves when they play I guess you would be against this sort of display of personal beliefs? Correct?

I admit to being a bit unfamiliar with this expression- whether it is in jest or of irritation.

I meant the cat as no offense, but as a mood lightener.

Watch 30 for 30's "Broke". It's not that they're dumb, but dangerously ignorant.

I've seen it. I've also seen a lot of guys transcend the NBA into various other fields. The NBA is just another group of people. Like always, there are idiots and there are those that make better decisions.

I do think it makes them look stupid. But they have that right. If the owners of the team have no problem with it……

Musicians, celebrities, sports figures usually make for horrible punditry.
