You remind me of Jerry Clower's story about "Uncle Vercy Ledbetter." Vercy was on a trip and was reading his bible. Someone said, "You don't believe that stuff do you?" Uncle Vercy said, "I believe every single word of it." The man said, "You aren't ignorant enough to believe a fish swallowed Jonah and three days later spit him up?!" Vercy said, "God said it, I believe it." The man said, "Well, you'll never be able to know for sure." Vercy said, "I will to." The man said, "How?" Vercy said, "When I get to heaven, I'm gonna ask Jonah." The man said, "What if Jonah isn't in heaven?" Vercy said, "Then you ask him."

Amen!!

Went to prayer meeting last Wed., & was planning on filling up my truck en route. Got to the station I usually frequent & cars everywhere!!!

Hadn't been paying much attention to the news for a couple of days, so I learned real quick that we were in a "SHORTAGE".

I was close to empty so I got real concerned. Got home later, & really felt "depressed" & down, but then started praying for peace. I asked God to lead me to some gas, but PRIMARILY to give me His peace regardless of getting gas or not.

I was given that peace, so I even decided to use some of the precious fuel & cut my lawn Thur AM.

Wife went to work Thur & at lunch told me there were no lines at the station, so I went & filled up.

My point is that we (me anyway) can sometimes let circumstances dictate our feelings rather than our trust in God.

satan knows that I'm susceptible in that area, so I need to be conscious of this weakness, and constantly seek the peace of the Father.

Amazing the difference when He is the focus rather than circumstances!!!

Christ said in the model prayer, "Give us this day our daily bread." I think that He can, so therefore, I am prepared.

 

The only problem with preparing for the unknown is that very often what happens is not what was prepared for. So...I'm thinking I am not prepared for what actually will happen.

 

But I do think it is prudent to make some preparations. For example, have your very important papers such as birth certicates and passports in a plastic envelope stored where you can get it if you need to leave. Batteries, bottled water, blankets, some food that can be stored and easily fixed without power. Some first aid supplies. There are many prudent things to do.
The Red Cross and others have websites giving information on this.

We don't have to imitate Mormons and have a year's supply of stuff on hand, but a three day supply is only common sense. We will also be buying a generator as our area can go without electricity sometimes during a rough winter and our water is from our well! Where we used to live we were without electricity for almost a week once. We had a wood stove and city water so we were fine, but it taught me an important lesson. You don't have to be paranoid to be basically prepared for an emergency situation. If you have any elderly or disabled neighbors, consider stocking a little extra, too.

Go through the stuff about every six months or at least a year and check batteries and expiration dates of foodstuffs and change water. Exchange medications as well and consume the old ones if they are continuing Rx's that you take daily and replace with current ones. Add vitamin pills to the list put out by the government, by the way, and, if you live in a mosquito-prone area, consider a roll of mosquito netting.

And don't forget a Bible!
