Arkansas Couple Welcomes 17th Child

In several passages in the New Testament, we see Paul mentioning what is the will of God for others. I believe we can know God's will for others beside ourselves.

That being said, I believe God's will for all of His children is that they use wisdom, acting wisely and not foolishly.

Jesus gave a parable once where He spoke of no man buying property until they sit down and count the cost. I do not believe this family is counting the cost where health risks for the future is concerned.

An increased risk of Osteoporosis and Nephritis are two major issues for women who go through multiple pregnancies. Also, medical and scientific tests have shown that women who have multiple pregnancies have a 15% to 25% shorter lifespan than those who have just one or two children.

I reiterate, the Duggar's are not using wisdom.

I believe God's will for you is to stop posting about this family that you know next to nothing about. :wavey:

To suggest that it is against the will of God to have more than two children is quite silly. Health risks are associated with every single pregnancy. As has been shown this couple is quite healthy and manages their family well. There is no room for biblical or sane opposition.

Please list these and we will consider them in context and see if they apply. Otherwise we are forced to assume you didn't quote them becuase you don't know where they are or because they do not apply.

That being said, I believe God's will for all of His children is that they use wisdom, acting wisely and not foolishly.

I agree completely. That says nothing for the Duggers though. YOUR definition of acting wisely may be foolish to them and vice versa.

Jesus gave a parable once where He spoke of no man buying property until they sit down and count the cost. I do not believe this family is counting the cost where health risks for the future is concerned.

Give the reference so we can see if that applies or not. And if they are to just sit down and count the cost, could they not have found it sufficient? We know not, it is all speculation.

Multiple trips on the road is most often the cause of fatal accidents, we should count the cost more concerning leaving our homes. It is a scientific fact that you are more likely to have a fatal accident if you continue to drive than if you stop driving now.

I reiterate, the Duggar's are not using wisdom.

I reiterate that this is YOUR opinion without any Bible to back it up.

I dispute your assumption that they are not using wisdom.
17 healthy children later, how do you even know whether or not her risk for what you list above increased from say 5 % to 7 %? Even if it increased some, individual genetics, diet, other factors play a role.
My motherinlaw had three kids and has osteoporosis. At 80, she takes a pill. Big deal.

I cannot have more children than the 3 I had. I'm old! LOL But there is no reason why the discussed family should not have 17 + . Good for them! I have seen them on tv, and they look great!

Many of the objections on this thread would imply that only a suburban, uppermiddle class lifestyle is godly for raising children.
I disagree with that.

Just Be a Blessing

We may not agree with what the Duggar's do, or the amount of children they have but we can at least support any Christian family that is raising are willing to raise their family for Christ.

Alot of times we can see a situation and try to put ourselves in that situation. Like if we see someone in a horrible outfit, we say might say wow I would never wear that. Once with my father in a mall I said that very thing as a child. He said and guess what you don't have to. It may seem like a small statement but I think about it often.

We do not have to feed them, school them, house them, have the health problems that may or may not come with multiple pregnancies,etc... It is between them and God. So just be a blessing and pray that God will help and direct them in the monumental task and testimony they have in front of the whole nation who follows them closely. More than anything they need our prayers.:praying:

You'd be surprised at how much I do know.

Yeah, I'm sure I would be. I'm sure it also wouldn't make any difference to me. You've wrongly set yourself up as judge over them without presenting anything that suggests you are more capable than they of deciding what God's will is for them.

I reiterate that this is YOUR opinion without any Bible to back it up.

Echoing Bro. Williams and C4K on this.

Joe,

Apparently it was moved to the men's forum or taken off altogether because of sexual content. Sexual content is forbidden in the public forums.

Oh...yeah thanks.

Praise the Lord that this family doesn't really care what the world (and that includes posters on the BB) thinks of them and they are following God's will for themselves and their children.

Y'all can argue back and forth all you want. It will not affect this family, so your arguments are in vain.

The Gideons, when passing out Bibles at school, always have other adults present.

They stand on the corners...so do the crossing guards who work for the police department (I am one of them).

They notify the school in advance what day they will be there and there are always teachers out watching.

There are also multitudes of cars with parents in them to pick up kids.

The Gideons are never alone with a child, at least not in my town.

Wow, you certainly can't get any safer than this. How sad they needed to defend themselves in court like that.

Dear Joe,

You wrote: " Hi Dale

Nice to meet you. I prefer modest clothing on children, and I think adults should dress this way too. My concern is that these kids have no input upon their own appearance.
These children dress similarly, and the females are not allowed to wear pants. The links are interesting. The mother says it helps with the task of doing laundry.
As for hair, I feel forcing the kids to have similar haircuts and styles is wrong. The boys all have the same style, the girls do too.

Each Child is different, and their differences should be encouraged. Hope your day is going well

Joe ".

Thanks for expressing your view.

What I was saying is that you the same things going on in other Christian groups. The Amish all wear the same style of clothes, particularly the men.
Now different groups within the Amish may allow for differen shirt colors, but the coat & pants are all the same. Little boy and teen boys are smaller versions of the men's. They all have the same haircuts ! Beards are a sign that a man is married, unmarried boys and men are clean-shaven.

Amish women, girls, and toddlers all have long hair, wear long dresses(solid colors),aprons, and headcoverings. Where there can be variants are headcoverings (varying by Amish church district) and footwear. Some of the younger girls wear sports shoes instead of the old style high top shoes !

All clothing issues are dealt with by the local bishop. Talk about little or no input... But,if you want to be part of the church, you have to submit...

My pastor's boys, who still live at home, all have the same haircut ("brush cut") but don't dress alike. His daughter dresses somewhat like her mother.

Don't the parents have the right to say what is appropriate attire ?
I do agree with you that all of the boys shouldn't wear the same style and color of suits, pants, shirts, and ties.

But,I've read enough in the discussions of modesty that almost promote the same things that you are condemning !

What about church dress codes ?

What if your children want to get funny hair cuts & styles and dress like the "world",maybe getting a tatoo ?

Wouldn't you greatly limit their input ? Wouldn't you,as their father, act on your authority to advise them not to do so ?

I'm not picking a fight with you. Just want to know how far you'd go...

Personally, there's been too much speculation and meddlin' regarding this family in this thread. Leave that to the "yapping head" shows on TV.

In Christ,

Dale

Hello Dale

Let's see. We have a teenage boy and we have not had to draw the line. If I needed to, here are a few guidelines I would implement-

Pants can never be sagging to appear like they are falling down

His haircut, well it's fine. He changes it from time to time. The only coloring in his hair was done by my wife, she streaked it with blond.

Shirts need to fit properly, look nice. That's about it.

It's hard to describe to you what I feel is acceptable. Dressing like a gang member, piercings or tattoos, too much jewelry is not acceptable. There are many variations of modest clothing which honor a child's differences. I suspect you and I would agree upon most clothing attire

This is what I was writing about! I do agree with being modest in clothes and allowing for individuality. I don't agree with modest clothes that draw attention because of its "dowdiness".

As for sagging pants...My wife works as a dispensary nurse at the Maryland State prison and says that the "sagging pants" are the way male homosexual prisoners advertise their availability for sex!

I bet you that those parents who allow the boy to wear their pants this way don't know that !

In Christ,

Dale

I'm curious...why isn't it considered wrong to have other children do the things a parent is supposed to do?

If one is able to convince others that a child is supposed to raise his or her younger siblings it frees the parents conscience of the fact that they are shirking responsibilities.

So I guess when I gave my dad money for milk & bread, and cooked & washed dishes, and did laundry & mowed the lawn, and humped the 5gal kerosene can to the station & back, that was all child abuse ? I never got an allowace, we couldn't afford cable TV, and we had it back then, in the sixties, even. Kids should be expected to help out, and this woman has lots of help, BTW.

But, since we're on the subject of population control, how many bastard kids should a welfare mother be allowed to have before her checks stop coming ?

Calling innocent children names over the sins of their parents isn't nice.
