Jim Baker, Benny Hinn, Rod Parsley, Harold Camping, setting dates for the return of Christ, phony healers etc. As a Baptist and a Protestant these thing are an embarrassment to me and bring shame to God's Church.
As a Roman Catholic, are you embarrassed by people flocking to a salt stain under a highway overpass that resembles the figure of a woman that they claim is Mary and a sign from God?
Is this something that is accepted by the Church or is it discouraged? How do you feel about these images.

I think this would fall under what the Catholic Church calls "Private revelation" and is not encourage by the CC outright. In otherwords, being a faithful Catholic and thinking it's a salt stain and nothing more are not mutually exclusive.

    Greetings,

Over all I find it very odd. However, there is one thing that is very interesting about it. CAtholics are able to see, recognize or at least to expect the Divine to break into our lives in real and concrete ways. There is a connection of Physical reality and spiritual reality that is not found in much of protestantism. Jesus is the ONLY REAL spiritual reality, and God just does not manifest himself in other ways. The people here expect God to manifest himself constantly in many ways. Although, I find this odd, I also find it positive in an odd way.

    peace

    TP,

I'd sure like to know what kind of protestantism you are referring to.

After being raised Catholic, one of the things that contributed greatly to my fleeing Catholicism and being born again was that non-Catholic christians actually spoke of Jesus as if they knew Him personally. They could talk with Him and discern Him talking back. They communicated regularly with him during any normal day. They spoke of how wonderful it was to actually have Jesus Christ show up at their meetings! And manifest Himself in very real ways.

It was awesome to me that these folks actually, to quote you...are "able to see, recognize or at least to expect the Divine to break into our lives in real and concrete ways."

It was exceedingly compelling to me, and a very new idea. As Catholics we know nothing of Christ actually being as real as the air we breath and a living dynamic in our lives.

What catholics have going on is superstition and counterfiet maifestations.

If anything real is going on regarding these things Gods Holy Spirit would have certainly witnessed as to the truth of them, but of course He didnt.

    God bless,

    Mike

    Greetings,

You wrote: As Catholics we know nothing of Christ actually being as real as the air we breath and a living dynamic in our lives.

Response: Then you were not taught you faith very well. That might be the problem of your parish, your priest, your teachers, your parents, but you were not taught the catholic faith well.

You should have been taught to talk to God throughout the day in Prayer, to depend on God in Trust, And ESPECIALLY the real presence of Christ in the eucharist-- This is AS real as it Gets.

Jesus Christ is very real to me. He is my savior and redeemer. I can talk to Him constantly because He is within me. He comes to me body, blood, soul, and divinity in the Eucharist. As a member of the Body of Christ, I am very much part of Him. He is my friend, my brother, my Lord and my God.

    TP,

There is no real presence of Jesus Christ in the wheat cracker. That is superstition.

Jesus Christ does not indwell wheat crackers, He indwells human hearts. He does not indwell us by having people eat Jesus, but through faith.

The passages of scripture from John 6 that the Catholic Church mangles for their own gain are beautiful passages of scripture when properly interpreted.

The Lords Supper is a beautiful memorial..."do this in remembrance of me"...not a ceremony to eat Jesus.

God bless you with His truth,

    Mike

    TP,

I was taught the faith very well. The problem was that the gospel of Jesus Christ was never shared with me, and I was never regenerated.

We were never taught the "simplicity of Christ",(2 Cor 11:3) but rather the complexity of the Catholic false justification system.

We were never one time told that through faith...and that is FAITH ALONE...we could embrace the Lord Jesus Christ and be completly reconciled to God and have heaven as our sure destination. We were never told that Christ would implant His life within us and make us into a new creation, giving us new wants and desires, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit...gifting us in very real ways with the gifts of the Spirit.

We were never taught to feed on Gods scriptures to learn how to discern the voice of God speaking to us through them...along with many other ways as well.

No...the problem isnt that they didnt teach me the Catholic faith properly. The problem was that they DID!

And that is what caused the gospel of Jesus Christ to be so compelling and wonderful when I heard it for the 1st time at the age of 25.

    Grace and peace,

    Mike
