What sort of audio files? *.wavs?
There isn't much Audacity can't handle.

    Okay I need more help.

I am trying to shrink bulky .wav recorded sermons to a more manageable sized file.

    Any suggestions?

Audacity is free sound program, open the wavs, go into preferences (off File menu) then "File formats", tell Audacity where lame is, ok and export wav as mp3 :)

Cool, sounds like it worked :)

If need to save space you could probably crunch sermons with bit rate set down to 56 or so without any problems. Just do a test after you make the mp3, see how it goes :)

while Pete is on C4k's dime, I wonder if he knows how to get Napster to work with Firefox? Napster site says it works, but my pc says it don't.

What problem are you having? I use Napster and also run FireFox, and it seems to work.

What is yours doing or not doing? What version of FireFox?

C4K, I don't trust banks, so just put cash in brown paper bag and I'll tell you where to drop it. Let me know when ready.......I'll wait..... ;)

Sorry standingfirm, I don't use Napster so have no idea on that one :(

If you want to allow access to sound files via the web, windows media file format is great. The files are much smaller than mp3's (espicially if you use the spoken voice option) and sound good too. Almost every player supports wma files.
The Windows media encoder is free as a download here. Choose the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series.

I believe real media has a free encoder as well.

    iTunes.
It is a great utility and you can use either mp3 or AAC files which are both open standards.
You can also set both of them for web streaming or for Podcasting in iTunes.

If you just want to squeeze them down. they also have some nice presets for spoken word content.

    www.itunes.com

You need to have Windows 2000 or XP to run it, or of course a Mac :)

Are you using Naptster with a subscription or you are guying? I like iTunes a whole lot better for buying music.

And it is an integrated store. It works great for me and they have the biggest library.
