Audio sermons: How hard is it to set up and how much would it cost?

1. How to do it.

You need to be able to record the sermon and get it into your comuter.

Do you have a Mac or PC?
A Mac will do better but a PC will be fine if that is all you have.

You need a soundcard with a line input on it an you can go out from your mixer on the PA at your church.
Let me know your setup and I can give you more ideas later when I know the circumstances.

2. how much does it cost?
Well, web space is pretty cheap.

We could host a site for about $10 per month and you could probably find something cheaper.
Once you get it onto you computer, convert it to either an mp3 or AAC file using iTunes and then you can upload it to the web with an FTP program.
Podcasting on iTunes is also a good way to go about it.

Joseph, it may sound difficult at first, but once you have gone over it, it is actually quite simple.

At least it is to me...hey, it is easier than programing a VCR

Also, http://www.gospelcom.net/ used to host for free if you have a qualifying ministry, not sure if it is still free or not...

Dale, I remember my first vcr, it was easier for me to program dbase iii than to program the vcr...

 

Also look at Audacity for your editing needs:

It is really powerful and it comes in Windows, Mac and Linux versions. And it is free.

 

Yeah, Audacity is great for a free program.
If you intend to spend money, you could do a lot better but for that purpose, it should be all you need.

I use Pro Tools but then I produce for radio so I need powerful editing tools that Audacity doesn't come close to.

Having a decent sound card helps to and they are getting so inexpensive there is little reason not to get a good USB sound device, not really a "card" anymore.

The issue isn't really the space to host a sermon or two, which doesn't take up much space. The cost is the bandwidth to download or listen/watch what you've published. If you only have a few downloading you won't have any problems. If you have many downloading what you've uploaded, you may have issues.

I have the standard package for $9.95 per month and have 25 gigs of downloading per month. I've never even been close to my limit.
