I have been with State Farm for 19 1/2 years. I have two cars and my home insured with them. Every few years I will get quotes from other places and State Farm is always the best deal. Remember Best Deal is not always cheapest. I might pay more, but I get something in return.

One thing I get is that on one car policy (the one I have had for 19.5 years) I have a clause that State Farm can not cancel my policy for any reason other than non-payment. This is not an option they offer any longer. I did have it on a second car policy, but when we went to one car for a number of years I lost that policy and could not get that clause again with the new car this year.

If you use a repair shop that they have an agreement with (you are not required to us these shops) then State Farm will pretty much accept the estimate, and won't argue if things are discovered later. The list of shops that they have agreements with is fairly extensive so you have a good choice. If you want a shop to do the work who SF doesn't have an agreement with then you can still use them just expect more haggling over the estimate. Overall I am very happy with both my agent and with State Farm.

I will generally get car insurance when & if I can afford it. I prefer to buy my insurance 6 months at a time for two reasons:

1. Its cheaper to do it that way.

2. I don't like having to make monthly payments.

Right now I have no insurance. State law requires it. I have other bills that have to be paid or else they will evict me, shut my power off, or repo my car. I have have had no taffic accidents or traffic tickets that have stuck (I'm also knocking on wood).

As long as I steer clear of road blocks & don't drive dangerously that will attract attention, I won't have to worry about getting cited for no insurance.

In 2005, I got pulled over by the State Revenue Enforcement. The officer wrote me two tickets. One for having an expired tag & the other for having no insurance. As soon he let me go, I went straight to the insurance company & switched insurance from one vehicle to another. The tag was expired. I bought the car from a friend who had the current registration & sticker for the tag. In Alabama, when you sell a car, you are supposed to keep the tag. She just gave it to me. I had all of that information when I went to court.

I walked into the courtroom, checked in with the clerk. I was in & out of there within 15 minutes. They threw it out before the judge walked into the courtroom. Other people there gave me this look like I got away with murder. I didn't protest my innocense, because that would have been a lie. I would have had to pay over $700.00 in fines if I had been found guilty on both.

If they didn't throw it out, I still had a back up plan. The officer made some errors on the citations. On one, he put the wrong driver license number. On the other, he put the wrong law code that had been broken. I have learned to carefully look over the traffic tickets. If there is a mistake on it, you have a fighting chance to get it thrown out.

I should have been an attorney.

Best rates for us is safeco, we tried all the major insurances and all were at least twice what we pay now, one co wanted 10x what we pay now, even the supose to be cheaper geico was really expensive.

The state requires it and you don't have it and continue to drive? It is not a matter of whether you get caught or not. You are willfully breaking the law. It might not matter to you personally but I feel for any person you injure in an accident.

Get insurance or park the car.

I have Farm Bureau. I paid $50.65 for full coverage this month. Of course, I've been with them since the Dark Ages.

BigBossman, I take it you've been fortunate enough not to be involved in an accident? One thing you always have to show is proof of insurance. There are too many people out there who don't drive their car; they AIM them. I've been in several accidents, and very few of them were my fault.

I concur with everything said above. I've been with State Farm for a little over 27 years. While I can save a bit of cash going with a cheaper agency, I've never had to fight State Farm over a claim and they've always been rather generous with payout. The five different agents I have over the years have been customer-focused in everything and have always been willing to work with me when I didn't think something was right.

I've been with State Farm since I got my first car (I'm in my twenties, so it's not an overly lengthy time period, but it's been several years). I have always had excellent customer service and have had no problems.
