What are your thoughts on AVG?

I need an antivirus and I would prefer free....

So is it any good? Will it do any damage?

I've had it on my main computer about a year, laptop several months and wifes for couple months and another one that seldom is online, for months.

Never a problem of any kind. Updates at least weekly. No virus yet, though don't know if I've had any incoming either, but used to get one or two a month so seems to be working fine.

Have heard others say similar, and you are right, free is the exact price that is so exactly great

I've installed AVG on a few computers, but I really don't care for it. When You actually get a virus, the interface for dealing with it is bothersome and down right useless.

I use eTrust from CA (Computer Associates), and have for over three years. Well, eTrust is the whole suite, but it is the same program. Very, very good a/v. Great real-time protection. it has saved my bacon many times over. System scans are a bit slower than some other antiviruses, but it is great.

Here's a link for a one year free trial (that's how I got started with it):

I use AVG and have had no problems. In fact for a while I was running AVG and Norton. AVG detected a couple of viruses that Norton didn't.

I'll toss in another vote for AVG. I love it! Like others have said, it updates regularly on it's own, and works perfectly!

I use e-trust also, to add two additional things I like about it.

    1. you never notice it on the computer until it catches some. I mean it doesn't hog the CPU or slow you down etc...

    2. It is an easy interface and you can schedule scans for when you are sleep and never see it unless it catches something.

ps... I also like the fact you never see it unless it catches something. That is also a major plus in my book.

I have used Norton, McAfee, and Trend. AVG has been my choice for the last several years.
