The Tide played OSU tough, but i don't think they did much to help themselves win; OSU was called for a LOT of stupid penalties. Both teams actually had stupid penalties called on them.

The end result, Bama finishes the season with a losing record. Along with the fact that they can't find a coach...how long will it take for them to recover from this one?

That's what happens when they have a bowl game 5-6 weeks after the season ends.

Sad to see what's happened to them. After how they gave Shula an extension one year and then fired him the next, I can't imagine alot of guys would want to go there. But I hear Gerry Faust is available.

Bama fan here - not much hope for the programme in my mind. We may have to accept that the glory years are over.

    I don't see a down side here...

The only way it would seem brighter would be if it were Florida instead of Alabama.

No, no...remember, Bama is our real rival. Saying Florida is our #1 rival gives them too much credit. They're new money...they're the new kids on the block. Bama and UT are historically the two best programs in the SEC. I will always consider Bama our #1 rival.

Word is they're looking for someone after the bowls and NFL playoffs are over...a big gun. Jon Gruden was mentioned last night. Surely not. Didn't he play at UT? Then again, Cutcliffe played at Bama and now is OC at UT.

They better do something quick...it seems things are slipping away quite fast in Bama land...

You both have it right. Alabama and UT are each others main rivals. They rival each other every year to see who will be the also rans after Florida.

 You really don't want to go there and look at the facts as we compare Bama or UT to Florida, do you? Granted, UF has had some measure of recent success, but it's not as if UF is head and shoulders above the rest. A recent comparison by sportswriter John Pennington, comparing programs during the 90s and the 00s in the SEC showed that Bama's biggest decline was second only to Florida's in terms of winning percentage, W-L record, etc.

I do wish y'all well against Ohio State. I think you guys are getting far less respect than you deserve.

I have been very impressed with the way Joe Kines carried himself through this stretch. He infused some enthusiasm in the players (a couple of players I know through my student ministry are hoping Kines will be named head coach--not likely, but they hope so). It was refreshing to hear a coach adopt the philosophy of, "If we win, it's because of the players...if we lose, it's my fault for not having them ready."

This man truly loves Alabama and has served it well. If he doesn't coach next year in some capacity, he'll probably retire, and I hope 'Bama shows him some love.

The only bright spots I saw were bits of offensive punch later in the game, and that 360-pound "receiver." Good call there.

Word is out that Bama has offered Nick Saban a deal big enough that he has no choice but to consider it.

I heard that too. Personally I think he would be crazy to leave the Dolphins for Bama.

I haven't heard anything else on this, but I have to think Saban would be crazy as well. The money is tempting, but he will not have the same amount of time to turn Bama around as he did LSU. That said, money lured him to LSU, and money lured him to the Dolphins. If he likes the college game enough, the money might make for a good reason to jump into the frying pan that is Tuscaloosa. However, will Bama be able to afford a good enough OC for him?

It will be telling if Bama cannot lure him with this kind of money. The next candidate will expect high dollars. You can't pay a Schiano or Johnson the money you were going to pay Saban (a conf and natl title winner). It would be a big coup to get Saban. Then again, like I said, maybe he feels the college game is more to his liking than he thought. He always seemed to be marked to head back to the NFL.

One thing is sure: Bama is a soap opera.

To me this is the only logical reason if he goes to Bama. Maybe he feels like Pete Carroll that the college game is more to his taste than the NFL.

But I still think he would be crazy.

I was listening to Fox Sports Radio and scout/analyst, Chris Landy, whom I think is as good as anybody in the business and who know Saban very well, stated that Saban will not take the Alabama head coaching job.

Seems like Saban may be leaving the door slightly open to going to Bama...
