BAPTISM AND SPIRITUAL FOOD
1Corinthians 10.1-4
Words, "under the Cloud" (1) mean GOD, Who lead Israel as a Cloud by the day and by Fire at night.
"...and all were baptized into Moses, in the Cloud, and in the sea." (2). Walking through the water crossing the Jordan river people were symbolically baptized into Moses.
Why into Moses? Because Moses was the only one leader at this time and was almost like a god to people, and by crossing the Jordan river Moses baptized himself and the people of Israel with this unique baptism.
People were baptized into Moses as their god-like leader because they do not know yet their real GOD. By this Baptism Moses cleansed and prepared people to meet their true and only GOD. Moses also can be considered and compare to John the Baptist as his forerunner. Moses introduced people to their GOD, John the Baptist also introduced people to the same GOD, the Christ.
Moses of course never pretended to be a god, but He presented himself as a messenger of GOD, who was sent from GOD to them, to lead them to promised to their fathers the Land of Canaan.
People of Israel while living in Egypt never have been introduced to their GOD, but when they cross the river, have been Baptized and stop at the Mount Sinai, at that Mount people of Israel seen and heard their GOD.
"Ate Spiritual Food and drink Spiritual Drink" means absorbing the Spiritual Statutes and Commandments of the Lord given them at Mount Sinai. It is very similar to that Christ said about His Body and His Blood during Passover, "Drink My Blood and eat My Body." In other words, be just like Me.
This Spiritual Food and Drink at first came in the form of 10 Spiritual Commandments given to Moses and then written down by Moses and given with all other Commandments of GOD through Moses to the people of Israel.
Paul echoing this theme in verses 16-17:
16. Is not the Cup (Spirit) of blessing which we bless a sharing in the Blood of Christ? Is not the Bread (Deeds, Work) which we break a sharing in the Body of Christ?
17. Since there is One Bread (One Body of Christ), we who are many are One Body (in Christ's Body), we all partake of the One Bread (in One Body with Christ) (see also: Passover).
It also relates to a certain saying.
Deuteronomy 8.3
3. "And He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna (Exodus 16.15-21.31-35) (Numbers 11.7-9), which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that *man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord."
~ 3. Commandments of the Lord give Life: (Leviticus 18.5) (Deuteronomy 8.3) (Nehemiah 9.29) (Psalm 119.93) (Ezekiel 20.11.13, 33.15) (Matthew 4.4, 19.17.29) (Mark 10.17.19.28-30) (Luke 4.4, 10.25-28, 18.18-20) (John 8.51, 12.49-50) (See also "Salvation").
Paul also made another important statement saying, "and the Rock was Christ." (4). This means that Jesus Christ was the One Who lead Israel from Egypt, divided water of Jordan for His people, and gave them the Laws and Statutes (Spiritual Food and Drink) at the Mount Sinai.
Word "Rock" means stable, solid, hard, indestructible, faithful, loyal, eternal, all of which describe the character and personality of Christ as GOD.
