And aspirin for a headache. I always take aspirin to get full assurance that I will have a headache afterwards.
Baptism and aspirin. These are the things that you take because you have something instead of trying to get something.
Baptism for forgiveness of sins.
Baptism because of forgiveness of sins.
Aspirin for a headache.
Aspirin because of a headache.
What I notice is people changing the words of Scripture to twist another meaning out it. There is no future in that behaviour, I already warned a brother about this in genuine concern, and hope he takes it to heart. If people love their opinion over the scripture, they are not worthy of the scripture.
What did the Nicene Council mean by “We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.”?
They understood it to mean that sins are forgiven at Baptism, that Baptism is Regeneration, and is being “Born Again “.
The First Ecumenical Council of all Christianity, all the heads of all the Churches gathered.
“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” Acts 2:38
The Council members in accord with Scripture, held that sin is forgiven at Baptism, and that as written elsewhere in Scripture, Baptism saves us, and clears our conscience toward God.
Baptism is Regeneration and brings us into the Kingdom, this was Universally believed by all Churches around the world for over 1500 years. Even the first reformers believed it.
So the plain and universally accepted interpretation of Scripture has long been settled from the beginning.
People can legalise with a contract, or legalise with some point of civil law, or a constitution, but legalise with the Scripture at your peril.
