Let's face it: the C/A debate isn't just 'heated'- it tends to get downright smelly. I'm taking a break from it. Why am I a Calvinist? Because I stayed in some argumentative debate forum? No way. The only way I've ever been able to change my mind about an issue was when I was alone with God in personal study. When you're around others- you will debate your point even if you know you're wrong. There is a pride issue at work. I'm very grateful for this forum because of the kind-hearted Calvinists I've met and invited to my other forums, but I think my spirit can only take so much strife before it needs to take a breather. Have fun arguing everyone. I've got better things to do.

In Christ,

Daniel Allen

You did not mention being a Christian, rather a calvinist. Does calvinism supercede Christianity, or do all calvinists have to be Christians?

<<<The only way I've ever been able to change my mind about an issue was when I was alone with God in personal study. When you're around others- you will debate your point even if you know you're wrong.>>>

I believe this is the problem, you mentioning YOU changing your own mind. This should be left to the Holy Spirit, not ourselves. This seems to be typical of those who claim to be calvinists, trying to figure things out on your own, using head knowledge with sentence structure, verbs, nouns, pronouns, etc. and not asking the Holy Spirit to discern scripture for us.

I agree with you Whetstone that we all need to take a look at what's NOT being accomplished and step back for a while.

Be blessed in your time alone with our Heavenly Father and may He speak to you wonderous words of wisdom that you can share with us another day.

2 Thessalonians 2:16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

Why is it that it seems only the Calvinists are complaining?

Disagree, Wes. Bro. Daniel and Bro. Brandon are stepping away from the fussing and feuding out of conviction and I agree with them that the C/A forum is an embarassment to us as Christian brothers and sisters.

I only occasionally post in this part of the forum for the reasons Diane and Whetstone mentioned.

Webdog do you disagree that God gave us a mind and the ability to use it? Daniel stated that the only way he could change his mind about something was while being alone with God in private study. Could this mean that God gave him answers to enable him to change his mind, using the faculties that God gave him? I believe Daniel meant this.
Your argument is silly!

Wes Said...
Wes are you worried that people might have other things to do than live in the calvinism/arminianism forum? I myself often take breathers from even so much as reading these debates as I find myself getting annoyed.

The fact that you only ever post in the Calvinism/arminiansm debates speaks volumes.

Matthew 12:25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.

Diane, who are you aiming that at?

10. dianetavegia

Rich.... I'm not aiming it at anyone. Read the verse! If we Baptist fight and fuss instead of witnessing and leading the lost to Christ, we're ineffective for the Lord's work. We need to be one in the Spirit, one in the Lord. [IMG]

Amen to your comments Diane. Whether Calvinist, Arminian or whatever other title we use that is our mission. [IMG]

How can preaching, debating, discussing and defending the scriptural truth of the doctrines of Sovereign Grace be an embarrassment to the people of God?

How?

It can be an embarrassment when it causes other brothers to stumble. I believe this to be the case.

Dear Whetstone,
I respect your belief, however, I am convinced that many are stumbling at resting fully in Christ through their 'unbelief.'

This in no way questions their position in Christ, only the depth or degree of their peace with God because of the accomplished redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins, rather than entering upon a continuous circle of I believe(d) therefore I am, or I am justified because I believed therefore I can be unjustified by unbelief.

Either make God the Sovereign Judge that He is, or make man the measure of all things.

Sovereignty of God, Divine Grace, Being justified freely by His Grace, how sweet these are to the poor debtor sinner, much more a blessing of His people in heavenly places with Christ than their imposing upon the decreed work of God their own purposed enslaved will.

To will something means to accomplish that which satisfies the operator of that will. At what time prior to quickening does any sinner accomplish anything other than the satisfaction of the flesh and then, apart from the continuing abiding work of Divine Grace through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we remain nothing more than dust, so ready to fall into the sin that does so easily beset any one of us.

We must either make our redemption complete in Christ, or we make it begun in Him only to be an accomplishment of ourselves.

May God Bless,

A Debtor to Free Grace,
Bro. Dallas

Bro. Dallas, we've had many threads archived or posts deleted and edited because of name calling, salvation questioning and very ugly behavior. That's an embarassment! There was much more 'I'm right and you're not' than 'This is what the Bible says...' [IMG]

Many Particular Baptists denied anyone with unscriptural baptism as having salvation. Others believed preachers preaching a false doctrine of salvation were of the anti-Christ.

John said they went out from us because they were not all of us (paraphrased).

Ours is not the task to make the word of God socially acceptable, but to preach the unadulterated truth. It is the truth that sets (us) all free.

I understand this must be done without being purposefully offensive.

Doctrinally, I agree with Bro. Dallas. I am a 5 point Calvinist- particular Baptist, whatever you'd like to call me today. In this matter, however, I am siding with Diane. Both sides of the debate have made big time fools of themselves and really done some damage to feelings, testimonies, and spiritual walks. It's great to be challenged- it's great to stand up for what you believe- and you're right bro. Dallas- the truth makes no apology.

But a brother offended is harder to be won than a city. Will we quibble at the cost of our brothers in Christ? I cannot.

Dear Sister Diane and Whetstone,
Forgive me if I spoke when I should have listened. I have been absent from the board for some time, I should read more when the opportunity to visit offers itself to me. I would not disagree with the fundamental truth of either statement you guys have made.

There is no doubt that we ought to pursue the ministry of the truth in Grace and Love unfeigned.

I will be leaving here for home in the next twenty mins. I will see you guys tomorrow.

Still, I am a debtor to Free Grace.

Bro. Dallas
