Baptist Denominations that believe Spiritual Gifts are for today.

Ben, I would first say that the Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church, though Baptist in name and origin, is no longer really identified with or identifies itself with the Baptist movement in the United States. Their connections run toward the Pentecostals and they are members of the Pentecostal Fellowship of North America. There are a few other small peripheral groups that have former Baptist historical ties: Holiness Baptist Association (Georgia), Christian Baptist Church of God (Ohio Valley), Evangelical Free Baptist Church (north Central U.S.), and General Conference of the Evangelical Baptist Church (North Carolina). The Calvary Holiness Association and the Church of God of the Mountain Assembly are also splits from Baptists. There is an African-American group called the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. I'm not sure if they have close ties to any other Baptists.

Second, I am not familiar with any Baptist groups that, as denominations, accept tongues and other parts of the pentecostal experience. This does not mean there aren't some, and certainly some local churches within different groups accept these teachings. Not too many years ago (and it still may be so), the First Baptist Church of Bullard, Texas had a TV program where people were regularly slain in the Spirit, healed, etc.. They were a member of the Smith County SBC Association, the BGC of TX, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

Sadly the "within biblical lines" is ignored even in some Baptist Churches these days and you get...wellll...you name it.

Turn back the clock just 20 years, when you went to a Church that had "Baptist" on teh sign out the front, you did not walk into the Toronto Airport giggle factory...

More and more baptist churches are falling into this. I believe if they are going to go to this they need to no longer call themselves Baptist. The two are very differnet groups. I can say that because I have in my life been involved with both. The one has did nothing for me except cause me heartache and grief. I really don't beleive there is a so called group, many are independent as so are the new penacostals.
