Does YOUR church hold to the Baptist Distinctives?

    Just to clarify, delineate the
    "Baptist Distinctives". Thank you.

My local Baptist Church, being Fundamentalist
    holds to the traditional fundamentals
    of fundamentalism:

    1. the inspiration and infallibility of scripture
    2. the deity of Christ (including His virgin birth)
    3. the substitutionary atonement of Christ's death
    4. the literal resurrrection of Christ from the dead
    5. the literal return of Christ in the Second Advent

Note that this also makes a good "plan
of salvation" for door to door [IMG]

    Hi Ed,

Here they are. The Baptist Distinctives can be remembered by associating them with the letters that comprise the word "BAPTISTS."

    B - Biblical Authority
A - Autonomy of the Local Church
P - Priesthood of the Believer
    T - Two Ordinances
    I - Individual Soul Liberty
S - Saved, Baptized Church Membership
    T - Two Offices
S - Separation of Church and State

    Blessings,
    Copper

yep, Pastor did a series of Wed night sermons/lessons on the Baptist Distinctives, and you got 'em listed just fine. He also pointed out that separation of church and state was meant to keep the STATE out of the CHURCH, not the other way around.

Amen! It was the Baptists who fought for the separation of church and state because of the Biblical grounds for it.

The position of my church on the fundamentals.

    1. the inspiration and infallibility of scripture
    Yes
    2. the deity of Christ (including His virgin birth)
    Yes
    3. the substitutionary atonement of Christ's death
    Yes
    4. the literal resurrrection of Christ from the dead
    Yes
    5. the literal return of Christ in the Second Advent
    Yes

    And on the baptist distinctives.

    B - Biblical Authority
    Yes
A - Autonomy of the Local Church
    Yes
P - Priesthood of the Believer
    Yes
    T - Two Ordinances
Yes. Most churchmembers (including me) usually refer to them as sacraments instead of the Ordinances, which is theologically a big no no, but the correct Dutch word 'instelling' simply doesn't sound right. So we use the other word and ignore the implications of that term.
    I - Individual Soul Liberty
    Yes
S - Saved, Baptized Church Membership
    Yes
    T - Two Offices
We've got 3. Elder, Deacon, Pastor. The first members of our church were all Dutch Reformed and they simply copied that way of doing things when they started my church.
S - Separation of Church and State
    Yes

    Praise the Lord.

Not too many churches do and it seems that even less of their flocks even know what the Baptist Distinctives are.

    [IMG] Nice to meet you.

We dropped off the "Seperation of Church and State" phrase because of the overwhelming modification to the concept as presented by the world, media, Satan, gullible christians, and just plain stupid people. We kept the idea of not having a church try to take over the government and the government not taking over the church but wanted to make sure no one was of the impression that we thought all reference to God, Christ, and the Bible are to be removed from public expression.
