Months after a disastrous attempt at visiting a
neighborhood Baptist church, I may be visiting
another this Sunday; I will in the near future if not
then. What should I expect from a "General
Conference" Baptist church? (Honestly, I had
no idea there were so many kinds! Amazing!)

    Abiyah, Hello.

I'm sorry to hear your Torah observing church hasn't worked out, as far as a General Conference Baptist Church, i could only suppose it to be in the general area of Baptist, which has never really been too general. So much diversity in what people call themselves Baptists, it's the old "you'll just have to find out for yourself" routine.

Hope you find the Lord's will in finding the right church; the one He has for you. [IMG]

Oh, No!! My synagogue works out just fine!! I
love my synagogue, love the teaching, and have
never found a Christian church which could equal
it in teaching, music, or in any other way. I have
    No intention of leaving it!

If my visiting a Sunday church gives that
impression to anyone, I shall not attend. Period.
I was only going because I am alone on Sunday
    mornings.

I won't be going. I would rather, then, stay home
    and study.

Abiyah, I assume it's a Baptist General Conference church, which sprang from the faith of Swedish Baptists who immigrated to the United States.

If that's the case, more information is available here:

    BAPTIST GENERAL CONFERENCE

Of course, as with all Baptist churches, your mileage may vary.

Thank you so much, RSR, but I can see now how
assumptions can be so wrongly made by some
when we do things. I am not going. I suddenly
lost interest. It is just that my husband and I used
to spend Sunday mornings together, and I miss
that; I let it get to me. I was only going to visit
this church on rare occasion, when I did not want
to be alone, but really, I enjoy my Sunday
mornings knocking about in the yard, pulling
weeds and tending the roses. I can also use it
studying and reading. Lots of things I can do. I
just miss my husband. We can spend the after-
    noon together, anyway.

    Thanks. 8o)

Many (if not most) Baptist General Conference would be far from "fundamentalist". Their premier schools - Bethel College and Bethle Seminary in suburban Minneapolis - would make New Evangelicals look conservative!

We have a couple of General Conference churches left in Wyoming. Most have closed or changed to a non-baptist position. But can't say too much bad about them since they might ask me to come help them in the future!! (That is what I do, you know!)

And we have no Messianic Fellowship presently in the state. I have been asked by curious Gentiles to start one, but have deferred. We have too many things - restaurants, stores, churches, cell groups - that "start" then drift and finally close
