Baptist or Believer: Which Came First?

I was wondering how you introduce yourself to others when you meet them for the first time and discover [actually feel the Holy Spirit nudge you to witness] that they are open to hear about your relationship with Jesus.

How about none of the above... there were too many Christian cliches that a non believer would not understand or have a wrong understanding about. "Born-again" is the one that stuck out most. I'd rather id myself as a follower or even disciple of Jesus.

...in my family, I am jokingly referred to as the "Born-again Christian!" My family has a general Protestant/Catholic background, so they never comprehended my teaching that you must first be born-again. They have clung tightly to their church membership and affiliations, and that will be what they get when they pass.

Card carrying Christians will have a hard time convincing God that their catechism promised them life in eternity.

However, all is not lost as my nephew came to Jesus, the right way four years ago, and was recently ordained as an associate pastor in the church he was saved in.

His conversion has thrown a spiritual curve ball to the rest of the family, as they see a 52-year-old man, preaching and teaching the same things this born-again fanatic always clung to.

Now, along with my Lord, who walks close by my side, is my nephew. And he is adamant that homosexuals needs to repent and go straight. Another thing I've been harrassed over. God is good, and in some ways, he hs a great sense of timing and humor! :applause:

All one needs to do is look at the total number on church rolls and compare that to those who attend regularly, and you get a pretty accurate mathmatical picture. Many Baptists will split hell wide open. Catholics will be in heaven despite their church.

I do not think anyone with common sense or who has read the Bible believes only Baptists will be there. I do not know where that came from, but it far outdoes the theories about UFOs. I would be very surprised to come across someone alive today that held that belief.

I don't think that this is disputable.

I do not think anyone with common sense or who has read the Bible believes only Baptists will be there. I do not know where that came from, but it far outdoes the theories about UFOs. I would be very surprised to come across someone alive today that held that belief.

I wish that it were not the case, but I've seen it personally.

:thumbs: You are not alone. My wife claims to have seen a UFO too. When whe was miling cows, she went out to the waiting area to lead more cows into the barn, and she seen one, in all its splendor.

I also know several others that have claimed to see UFO's and who am I to dispute what they claim. I have my doubts, although I do remember seeing something as a sixth grader. In fact the entire school was on the playground for lunch break when one flew over the far part of the school grounds, maybe three hundred yards from where all of us were gathered playing.

To this day, along with several hundred kids and teachers, we witnessed something, but what, I'm not sure.

Like some folks, especially those who are adamant that some gifts were only doled out for a certain time in Bible history, I think I'd have to be taken up in a UFO and actually talk with the aliens to convince me of what it was. :laugh:

Then, like you, I'd be branded emotional or something else for admittting to what I saw and experienced. :tonofbricks:

Actually, there are some who come close. They hold to Landmark ecclesiology and something called the Baptist Bride.

As explained to me, this view holds that only Baptists and those of like faith and order are true New Testament churches. A church is the bride of Christ. Therefore, only Baptists (and like) churches make up the Bride.

The old preacher who explained this to me says that only Baptists will be invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Those true believers of other denominations will be present. But since they are not members of a true New Testament church, they will not participate in the Marriage Supper. They will be spectators, not participants.

Don't laugh. This was a seriously-held view in my part of the country for many years. And to tell the truth, I understand the rationale behind it. It starts with the idea that my Baptist church is a New Testament church. Mix that in with the idea not every faith group can qualify as a New Testament church because it teaches heresy or false doctrine. It's not to big a leap from there.
