The Mennonites believe in a closed society and pacifism, which few if any Baptists believe in. I know of very few Baptists who associate as little with the rest of the world as possible, and who refuse to serve in the armed forces of their nation.

They refuse to take any oath.

Instead of proselytizing, they spread their faith by WORKS.(Not salvation by works.)

They're simply a denom caught up in legalism.

From the ones I've known they are very legalistic. I don't know more about them then that.

    Mennonites are German Baptists.
    Baptists are English Mennonites.

Mennonites also practice water baptism by pouring rather than immersion. Other than that and some cultural issues there isnt much difference. Their break with mainline protestantism was over infant baptism.

No, like Baptists, Mennonites are a number of denominations, some of which may seem legalistic to others. Different Mennonite denominations have different ideas about what separation from the world should look like, and how evangelism should be conducted. They overlap with Baptist denominations in both respects.

Some do, but this is not a distinctive of Mennonites. I am Mennonite Brethren, and our denomination practices baptism by immersion. Mennonite Church USA states in the commentary of their [Confession of Faith] that "The church may baptize by pouring, immersion, or the sprinkling of water".

I'd say that reading a couple of pages at the following link will be more fruitfull than listening to the prejudices of the uninformed on the BB.

I just want to say, we can't throw mennonites into the same box because just like there are so many different baptists there are many different mennonites. What I do know is that the "conservative mennonites" (I'll put that in quotes) are very hypocritical in their preaching versus actions. You must be very careful around them. They make you believe they are such nice godly people but their inner core is something very different.

I am good friends with a Mennonite girl and I know their beliefs after talking/debating with her. They believe kinda like the Baptists, except for the fact that they don't believe in eternal security, they wear the head-covering, and they don't believe in going to war.

I'd say that you know her beliefs. Just as someone who knew you wouldn't know what all IFBs believe, so too Mennonites are not a monolithic whole. For instance, while no Mennonite church I've been to requires women to wear headcoverings, the IFB church my dad now attends does require this. It was actually my impression that headcoverings were more of an IFB thing. But, your post has shown me that small sample sizes can lead to erroneous ideas. ;)

No IFB church here requires headcoverings (we don't even believe in them), but all Mennonites I've ever met (which have been several) required them. But I know what you mean, just because I know what she believes, doesn't mean all mennonites believe the same way.

And this thread is for BAPTISTS ONLY (active members of a Baptist church). We are allowing Mercury - as a Mennonite - here to answer questions on this thread.

Just to let everyone know. We recognize he is NOT a Baptist.

Dr. Bob, my posting in the Baptists area is based on a recent decision publicly made by the site admin(s) that Anabaptists are permitted to post in Baptist-only areas.

Anyway, [here's a link] to where that was stated.

We have several mennonites living in our area and I'm not for sure about their beliefs but I do know they are a very caring and loving group of people, always helping the elderly, cleaning up after storms, etc.

My memory is short! Thanks. Now, why not update your profile to say "Baptist" in parentheses or such so that folks will not send me "alerts" that a non-baptist is posting.

Can I put "Anabaptist" instead? I don't want to put "Baptist" because it is not correct, and I don't want to deceive anyone.
