Nine players have been named most valuable player in two consecutive years. Coincidentally they constitute a complete lineup (all positions covered). Name the nine.

(I only named three of the guys and I had to think about it for a while.)

SolaSaint got 2 correct, Barry Bonds and Mike Schmidt.

Everybody you listed was an MVP, SolaSaint, except for one. Without looking it up, who did you list that never won the MVP?

To the original question, here are the ones I guessed.

    Albert Pujols
    Joe Morgan
    Mike Schmidt
    Barry Bonds
    Mickey Mantle
    Dale Murphy

Bonus questions on Bonds. How many did he win in a row? How many has he won overall?

The ones I had to look up but should have been able to guess.

    Yogi Berra
    Ernie Banks

The one I had no clue about.

    Jimmie Foxx

    I
I had a severe brain cramp by missing Bonds on his list! Bonds has won the MVP 7 times, including 4 years and 2 years in a row.

You did a great job. You only need a pitcher to fill out a team.

I got Mantle, Murphy, and Bonds. I completely missed Pujols. Can't believe I didn't get Berra or Schmidt. I had thought of them but wasn't sure about the consecutive years aspect. I didn't think Joe Morgan had more than one MVP. I could not think of a second baseman or a SS or pitcher.

I almost put down Morgan and should have thought about Mantle and Foxx. I also should have put down Hornsby but I guess that is wrong also.

I sent this question out to some friends on my email list and one responded that there were 12 players, not 9 that have won consecutive MVP awards. I then checked the source of the question and it apparently is from the Larry King show in 1991.

    Here is the list:

    Hal Newhouser, pitcher
    Yogi Berra, catcher
    Jimmie Foxx, first base
    Joe Morgan, second base
    Ernie Banks, shortstop
    Mike Schmidt, third base
    Mickey Mantle, outfield
    Roger Maris, outfield
    Dale Murphy, outfield

    Since 1991
    Barry Bonds, outfield
    Frank Thomas, first base
    Albert Pujols, first base
