Amen. I hope Ainge throws for 400 yds and both Foster and Coker break 100 in the most lopsided victory in the history of the series. More realistically, I hope they can beat Bama worse than UF did.

Ainge isn't looking too great. This is the first time I have seen him play, but I am beginning to think he is over-rated. How many times has he been picked off today so far?

As of half time, that would be 3 times, Mr. Botwinick.

Surely the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS will have blown out Alabama by the end of the game. After all, aren't the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS the team that some on this board seemingly think that Ohio State Buckeyes have nightmares about?

So surely by the time the clock runs out the score will be something like 50 - 13 in favor of the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS.

A very nice bluegrass song by the Osborne Brothers. They did a sequel to it - specifically about the Volunteers - on the CD "Christmas on the Mountain" entitled "Christmas Time on Rocky Top". Regardless of the references to the Volunteers it is a quite nice bluegrass song. :)

    Such a close game!

I would not want to be Mike Shula this season.

Wow! Who woulda thunk that the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS would barely eek out a win over Alabama? The MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS are at the same point as the Razorbacks were about a month ago when they barely eeked out a win over Alabama.

Of course, since then the Hogs have beaten the #4 team in the BCS poll and destroyed a Mississippi team that Alabama barely eeked out a win against just last week and then the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS barely eek out a win against this same Alabama team.

But I imagine that the apologists for the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS will be able to explain this all away and reaffirm that the MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS should continue to trouble the dreams of the Ohio State Buckeyes on a nightly basis.

I guess as far as the Vol fans are concerned, "A win is a win is a win...."

But the game shouldn't have been that close. It'll be interesting to see how the Vols are rated after this game.

At least there is one football team in Tennessee that wins. As for the NFL Tennessee Titans, well........:tongue3:

I think that the Titans have a winner in Young just as the Cardinals have a winner in Leinart.

We may see them play each other in another championship game down the road a few years.

Not quite. Ainge started out horribly, throwing the ball high on virtually every pass. I am pretty sure he was under 50% for the first half.

Nonetheless, UT ended up statistically dominating Bama. Ainge threw for over 300. While UT shot themselves in the foot and was still much better than Bama. In fact, it would be completely accurate to say that Bama didn't stop UT but maybe 2 or 3 times all game. UT stopped themselves.

Except for a prayer of a blind pass, Bama had less than 200 yards of offense. They completely shut Darby down. JPW was 13/29 for 158. Total rushing yards were 53 for Bama against the Vols.

Total yards- UT 359, Bama 211.

Now how does that really compare to the Ark/Bama game?

Bama dominated Ark statistically. JPW was 16/20 for 243. They rushed for over 100 yards against Arkansas. If not for McFadden, Ark wouldn't have had any offense at all.

Total yards- Bama 361, Ark 269

... and anyone who watched the game knows that Bama lost that game on 3 missed medium range FG's and a missed PAT in OT... not because Ark outplayed them.

UT thoroughly outplayed Bama but hurt themselves with 3 picks in the 1st half.

Given the choice, I guarantee that OSU would much rather face Arkansas than UT.

No need to apologize. UT was good enough today to make mistakes that should have beaten them while Bama made none yet still beat Bama and statistically dominate them.

It shouldn't have been as close as it was... but it was. Bama shouldn't have lost to Ark... but they did. I guess that's just the way the breaks fall sometimes.

Congratulations btw on a fine win against 2-6 Ole Miss... I'm sure glad UT doesn't have to play those two Mississippi powerhouses! It was impressive seeing the Hogs score as many offensive points against Ole Miss as UK... of course you came no where close to dominating them to the degree that the Mizzou Tigers did. They posted 471 yards of offense and allowed 165.

Interestingly enough since you've chosen to make this particular comparison. The same Bama offense that couldn't muster anything but a hail Mary against UT today punched up 436 yards last week against Ole Miss. Your Hogs only had 346. IOW's, you shouldn't take too much comfort in the fact that UT shut down an offense that outperformed your offense against a common opponent.

The only thing we can really tell about Ole Miss is that Schaeffer is inconsistent but generally stinks... and they show up sometimes and other times they don't.

BTW, Statistics did matter today. Had UT not been so dominating in yardage... they would have lost. Every close and critical call went against them. They turned the ball over 3 times while driving in Bama's end of the field. They needed every yard and every tackle to win.

Bama didn't give them the game like they did Arkansas.

No problem. I knew you'd come through too. Smart aleck remarks... but no substance in your arguments other than "UH-UH, my team's better".

If you think that Ark performed better against Bama or dominated them more than UT then I guess you can't prevent someone from ignoring the facts. As Stefan said, the UT/Bama score should have been much, much worse. Ainge got off to a terrible start. They wasted 5-6 drives... and still Bama couldn't stop them from winning. OTOH, the most "impressive" offensive play for Bama today was when JPW closed his eyes and threw it up for grabs.... again, they dominated Arkansas and lost because their kicker choked... 4 times.

This is why I, as an Arkansas fan, am glad that the players have been able to improve and to gain experience over the weeks. If Arkansas plays South Carolina, LSU, or Tennessee like they played Alabama, they will lose.

What Arkansas needs to find is consistency in the passing game. Mustain has the talent, but he's still young. If Arkansas can figure out how to make an effective passing attack, then they can effectively balance their rushing machine. McFadden and Jones are high-caliber athletes, but without a balancing pass attack, Arkansas will have trouble in big games. Thus far, the Hogs have been able to rely on the talent of their running backs to carry them, but that only works for so long. As in the Ole Miss game today, the big running breaks of the first half didn't continue into the second. McFadden's second TD? A 70 yd pass play. If the Hogs can go to the air with confidence, then the run will be much, much more dangerous.

Tennessee's yardage today shows you how effective a passing attack can be.

what I took from the UT/bama game...

Wow. Alabama has one offensive lineman that can block. At the end of the game, UT rushed three and still got back to Wilson immediately. Want to see why Alabama can't run or pass? Look at their anemic line. The freshman is super...the rest of them probably wouldn't start for Kentucky.

Alabama still has one of the worst special teams I've seen in the SEC. That'll probably be the first coach from the staff to go...at least it should be IMO. Every game, they give up big returns, never make big returns, and can't get a touchback to save their lives.

Having said all that, UT should have won by more than they did. 'Bama's defense did all right, considering they never got a break from the field. But what an anemic offensive effort.

Bama has a decent team but their better players are young or new starters. Their older players aren't top notch talents.

If you look back over the past 11 years, they've been on a consistent pattern. They have a losing season, mediocre season, then a 10 win season... then they repeat. Happened 3 consecutive times for complete cycles.

    They won 10 last year.

They'll break that pattern this year due to having an extraordinarily weak OOC schedule But it will take something weird for them to avoid losing to Auburn and LSU to finish 7-5.

Anyone who thinks either team was going to blow the other out doesn't know much about the SEC and even less about this rivalry, arguably the best in the Southeast. Yesterday's game was the fourth straight decided by 8 points or less. Some of the football haters would like to raise the bar so high that neither team can reach it, and whatever gets 'em through the day, but it was a typical Bama-Tenn rivalry that only the classy can appreciate.

UT struggled. Cutcliffe abandoned the run (perhaps a little quick - too quickly for the call-in pundits and some former players and analysts on the local shows who lamented the play-calling as too conservative and confused) and Ainge's mouth needed the humbling that maybe the two picks (and the third on a hail mary) will provide. Shula proved once again that he is unwilling to roll the dice (think about the critical 4th and inches inside UT's 1 in the first half and punting late in the game, and failing to give the ball to Johns when Darby was being shut down while Johns was averaging over ten a pop). Shula may be in over his head in rivalry games.

Coach Fulmer said this AM that Coker is likely done for the year, news that was reiterated Sunday night by Packer and AD Hamilton. Not news a struggling running game needed to hear. Swain is going to have to get healthy in a hurry because UT is going to need a third receiver and if Swain is out, Lucas Taylor is proving he's not the answer (broke off his route that lead to the first INT).

UT's secondary continued to give up big plays and got some lucky breaks with an occasional play or two. UT's front seven played very well and got to JP Wilson all day. UT's special teams were the most special they've been in a long time. Kudos to Fulmer and the staff for improving the special teams (though, are we really going to see Foster returning kicks since that's how Coker's season was potentially ended?). Ainge looked poised on the last drive and made things happen when it counted, also making a critical tackle in the 2nd quarter after throwing his 2nd pick.

I don't like to gripe about the officiating, but boy is the officiating in this conference getting worse by the minute or what? I don't understand not having your #1 crew at the premier game of the day in your conference. And scrap instant replay. It makes no sense to have a coaches' challenge when you're "reviewing" every play anyway.

Neither team looked dominant because it's Bama v Tenn. Both teams grinded out a hard-fought 60 minutes that this year went to the Vols. Shows why these two programs are historically the class of the SEC. UT enters a brutal stretch that leads to Columbia, home to face LSU, and a game at Arkansas. All are going to be fierce battles.
