I'd still like to know what he took and why.

"The documents he took detailed how the Clinton administration had responded to the threat of terrorist attacks at the end of 1999. Berger removed a total of five copies of the same document without authorization and later used scissors to destroy three before placing them in his office trash, the National Archives inspector general concluded in a Nov. 4, 2005, report."

What he did was wrong and stupid, but there were other copies. If he was trying to hide something, then he apparently failed.

Hope you and yours had a great Christmas, Wayne,

    Not exactly.

Berger pleaded guilty to unlawfully removing and retaining classified documents. He was fined $50,000, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and was barred from access to classified material for three years.

The CNN report was exact; you were not when you stated that he was sentenced to jail time. Community service is not exactly jail time.

Sandy Berger's always stuffing classified documents into his clothes or under a trailer, I doubt there's any way to stop him except jail time. Convicting and sentencing him to community service isn't cutting it.

He's either a klepto or trying to help his old boss. Maybe both.

Yes. I even made copies of them but Mr. Berger broke into my house and stole them.

It was reported in all the blurbs that Berger admitted that he "knowingly removed" both classified documents as well as handwritten notes of President Clinton:

    Are you sure about that?

    Here is what you offered:
How did you deduce that the handwritten notes were those of former President Clinton?

Didn't you notice the previous paragraphs in that link from which you have quoted? Perhaps you missed it:
Don't trust me: read it for yourself - it's right there in the link you have provided.

At least he didn't steal all your firearms.

This is about his latest klepto-spree, right? This thing?:

    A regular RNC mouthpiece: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/20/AR2006122001968_pf.html

Looks like they had alot to do with national security threats. Why, Sandy, why?

See the handwritten note. Touch the handwritten notes. Feel the handwritten notes.

When it first happened I remember that it was all over the news and forums that there were handwritten notes associated with the documents taken written by at least the Clinton administration (some of which perhaps by Clinton himself) which although was not denied seemed to disappear from the blurbs given to the general public:

So I'll modify my previous statement to say that there were reportedly handwritten notes by the clinton-administartion officials associated with the documents Berger illegally obtained.

I'll look for more if you wish.

So, if there is proof that Berger did this, then why weren't the charges more severe? That just doesn't make sense.....

Thanks for the additional info though,

    Good question.

I think it has to do with the possibility that no one on either side of the aisle really wants this laundry to be publically aired for all to see.

Probably neither administration (Clinton/Bush) wants the issue of Iraq/Iran, WMD's, etc and related decisions made, shouted from the rooftops, so it's being allowed to be minimized.

    My opinion, of course.
