Best Filtering Software

    What is the best filtering software to protect kids from bad websites? I have heard of Covenant Eyes. I'm looking for something that is effective but does not slow down your internet speed (I've heard sometimes it slows your performance). Is there any freeware out there that does the job well?

    OpenDNS. It isn't software, though. It is a free alternate DNS service that allows you to filter out what you want filtered before it ever gets to your computer. You can choose from
    • no filtering
    • filter phishing attacs (1 catagory)
    • pornography and phishing (5 catagories)
    • all adult-related sites and illegal activity (14 catagories)
    • all adult-related sites, illegal activity, social networking sites, video sharing sites, and general time-wasters (27 catagories)
    • custom filtering (chosen by you)

    Best of all, OpenDNS is free. I use it and am very pleased with it.

    I haven't noticed any speed difference at all while using it. If anything, my internet is a little faster.
