E- 1 - on enlistment
E-2 - 4 months later
E-3 - 4 months later
E-4 (Sp 4) 3 months later
On the Secondary E-5 list - about 18 months later

Enlisted with prior service - 9 months after ETS
E-3 - upon re-enlistment
E-4 about 6 months later
E-5 About 2 years later
E-6 about 4 years later

ETS as an E-6

In the Virginia State Guard ( not National Guard)
promoted to E-7 about after a year
