Too bad he wasn't in power when the Road Map was shoved in Sharon's face. He would have told the quartet to take a hike. He knew this would happen and so did I - you can't negotiate with terrorists and that's what the majority of these people are, as proven by their votes.

The reason he was not in power was because the Israeli people wanted the Road Map and the Gaza Pullout. It really would have probably happened with or without American intervention. Whether or not the Israelis still want to pursue the Road Map is still to be seen. Personally, I still remain hopeful that peace can be achieved. But, the new Israeli government needs to listen to folks like Sharansky who call for reciprocity.

    We will see what happens.

I predict civil war in Palestine, or at least its equivalent.

I am not aware that the war in Palestine has ever ceased, at least since 1948.

You talk like Sharon and the people of Israel didn't have free choice, LE.

The Roadmap is a good thing. I hope that Hamas renounces terrorism, embraces the Roadmap, and participates in the peace process.

Alternative energy is probably 40-50 years off from being anywhere close to a significant player in providing energy for transportation. My time horizon for stock investments is shorter than that, Major B. :D

Alternative energy could be a factor next year, if oil hits $80. If oil hits $100, they could do it even quicker. This is old technology, we have just not had the will to pay for the massive infrastructure development.

    As for the arms industry...

Agreed, Fatah and Hamas militants have already begun killing one another.

I agree with the democratic process, but in this instance it has resulted in the election of a group that have a three point plan, Fear, Hatred and Violence.

I do think that Abbas gave it his best shot to bring peace, he did try and stop the suicide bombers, but was white anted constantly from behind. I think that the best thing to do is to get him out of the country and into a neutral country like what happened with the monarchy of Afghanistan, in the hope that when a future government comes along that is prepared to really try and make peace that he can go back and resume his work. I think he will be assasinated if he stands in the way of Hamas, and would be better to give him the chance and err on the side of caution and get him and his family out of there.

There is nothing that Abbas can do now, and it is going to get alot more violent.

The Palestinians made their democratic choice, no doubt the Israelites will make theirs. There voter turnout is traditionally low, yet we will see what happens this time I suppose!

No. That is Natan Sharansky. You really should study up on us neo-cons and who our favorite Israeli politicians are, you know? :D

I had a lot to say on this in the thread on the political forum, but let's just say that this whole situation just shows how unpredictable situations can be when people are involved. Never underestimate the potential for damage of stupid people in large groups. Crank in oil, religion, and 4,000 years of bad history, and BOOM! And, no one will win.
