Does anyone have any Scriptural thoughts on retirement or the savings toward such?

Retirement is not a biblical thing. I am retired. I also invested for retirement. A man is foolish if he does not make provisions for old age in this society.

I have heard some pastors talk like retirement is ungodly, and I have heard some of them try to preach. Granted a few have done it, and done it well. For the most of us, I fear, we become long-winded oafs in a pulpit.

This does not mean we cannot be a faithful witness, or even assist younger fellows in the pulpit. I need more time to tie my shoelaces to-day, let alone remember all the verses needed to teach a Sunday School class, or to preach every Sunday.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Jim,
If the concept is not biblical as you say, don't you think you are a little wrash in your "foolish" comment?

ON the other hand, at what age did you start investing?

    Jim,

I believe the first responsibility of a husband is to provide for his family. If you can afford to retire, God bless you!! If you can't, God has more for you to do.

Me, I'm forced to leave my primary occupation at age 60. Thankfully, God has blessed.

I started investing during my first pastorate in Canada,$5.00 a week out of my $40.00 per week wage. (Investor's Syndicate...a Christian organization)

Providing for retirement IS caring for one's family. In those days we did not have pension plans, and many a preacher had to preach just to earn an income.

The small investment also served as a payout for family in the event of my early demise.

It is the old thing of being penny wise or pound foolish.

    Cheers,

    Jim
