Bible in one year

How long is this class going to be,are you going to use the Readers Digest Bible?
I haven't ever tried to cover the Bible like you are suggesting, I tend to go more to a class geared toward basic beliefs, doctrine and why we believe what we believe. I also include the churches vision and mission as part of the class. From a new believer's perspective it may create more questions then answers. Imagine trying to understand a Just and Loving God while reading at the same time how thousands are killed by the Israelites, cause God said. To a new believer this may be very difficult to understand. Just a thought. Let us know if you come up with a study, it would interesting to see.

 

I try to read the Bible through from cover to cover each year. I succeed about every other year! It takes about 4 chapters a day.

Below you will find that Clint is running a one-year Bible study and I am running a much slower one where each chapter is examined and events are looked at a lot more closely. I think you would enjoy occasionally peeking at either or both.

Personally, I have been putting several hours in a day on background research on the plagues of Moses. It's been fascinating and I would love some feedback!

At any rate, Bible study, fast or slow, is the only way to get to know God's Word. Both styles have a lot to offer. The faster, Bible in a year variety gives an excellent overview of the plans, purposes, and character of God in His relationship with men. I highly recommend it.

And I just as highly recommend the next year taking your time and really digging a little each day. I know at the rate I am going below, it will take several years to get finished. And I don't know how many are reading the material, but I, for one, and learning tons!

Ii have been thinking aabout continuing Clint's
then reading just your commments daily.

I have never read the Bible through, because
I always got side-tracked with subject-
studies and never continued. I have So Many
Questions.

I think that after I have read it through with
Clint, I would like to read the Bible through
chronologically. C.S.Murphy, regarding teaching
a class, would you ever consider doing it chrono-
logically?

I Use the clock I read about an hour a day for myself.
This way I get though the NT 2 times a year and the OT about one and half.

 

This is worthy and ambitious goal for new believers, especially if they will be meeting only weekly. Would this class take place during the Sunday School hour, or during traditional Training Union? To cover 66 books, though, will require a brief but meaningful synthesis, but how would it be arranged? Geographically? Chronologically? Historically? Perhaps, topically, by the sections of scripture? Would you start from front cover and work to the other end?

I wonder if you could supplement material for new believers so they can learn to handle the text themselves; a good resource I've found for beginners is Living By The Book by Howard Hendricks. He also teaches courses such as a Walk thru the Bible, and develops charts to flow the thinking or events through large portions of text quickly - I've seen charts prepared by pre-teens, and their grasp of the Bible can be amazing, even if they've never heard it before. The Walk thru the Bible program is a 4 hour overview of each of the books of the Bible with pneumonic tools to memorize the book's key themes.

Anyway, I encourage you to go for it, and develop a ministry to better prepare and disciple these new believers of all ages.
