Bless this Lottery ticket

I do not see gambling ever mentioned in a positive light in scripture. However I do read that;

1) The desire to get rich quick is unhealthy;

Proverbs 28:22 A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, And does not consider that poverty will come upon him. (Pro 28:22 NKJ)

2) That if we are not willing to work, we do not deserve to eat

2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. (2Th 3:10 NKJ)

Please not the 'will not' here, Paul is not referring to those who 'can not'

3) We are supposed to be good stewards of what has given us

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful. (1Co 4:2 NKJ)

4) We are to be content with the situation that God has put us in

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you1." (Heb 13:5 NKJ)

There are perhaps other principles one might drag in, however in my opinion these are enough to preclude gambling from the my Christain life but I will not go further then that

 

I don't know. What I do believe is that God meets needs. How He chooses to do that is up to Him; I don't figure I should try to tell Him how He should and should not do that.

 

The founder of the Salvation Army was criticized for accepting monies in the pubs of London. His response was, "The Devil has had it long enough!" And he went about his business.

Personally, I will not get involved in gambling, but that is up to the individual, in my opinion. Maybe I do gamble,,hmmm, each year our volunteer fire department has a lottery and sells ticket for $5.00 each. The prize is about $350.00. I buy five tickets and put the fire department's name on the tickets....I guess that is still gambling! Sinner that I am.
