    Well, those of you who read over here know that I've been trying to find some software so the teachers will have easier access to the server and I won't have to be converting and uploading all their files.

    I'm not having much luck -- mainly because I'm not getting much tech support, but that's what I have to deal with.

    In my search for software, I found blogspot.com -- no ads, just a navigation bar at the top.

    I could set the pages up for the teachers with the appropriate header, footer and links, then let them go. I would be finished for a while and they could take care of it themselves from anywhere they had internet access.

    My questions is -- What are the cons to doing it this way? I'm seeing benefits. The navigation bar is a con, but it's the only one I'm seeing right now.

    Sounds like it ought to work. I used blogspot.com for several months and never had a problem.

    You've got quite a layout going. Looks like you've spent a LOT of time/work on this.

    The analyst part of me has to ask: What's your end goal? What exactly are you trying to set up?

    To answer the analyst :D

    Our headmaster has asked all the teachers to put something online each month. That something comes to me to upload and usually convert because it comes to me in word. Here's another teacher's page that has sent me multiple things http://cbdscougars.com/faculty/courtneytucker.htm

    I'm desperately trying to eliminate the things I have to do on a daily/weekly business so I can use that time to prepare lessons or grade papers or even think of new and innovative stuff for the web. The teacher above is technologically savvy, but others have a difficult time with attachments.

    From an IT professional perspective, blogspot (or any other blog site) completes the requirement.

    But, from an IT perspective . . . will the users use it? Personally, I have blogged in several forms over the years. And I find that most non-geeks are greatly challenged if you have to do more than turn on the computer . . .

    Will you have continuous classes to teach them how to cut and paste out of Word?

    ;)

    Of course one blessing and curse is your not being able to change their passwords for them.

    El Guero, with any luck, they'll realize they should be accessing the blog directly, and not cutting and pasting (after the initial migration, that is).

    But you're right: They'll need some clear, specific directions on how to access their particular area, how to select "new message," what to do to input it, etc.

    Ma'am, I think you've hit the best solution for what you're attempting to accomplish. Now it'll just be a matter of "holding their hands" until they all get comfortable using it.

    This is like the worst part of my job. I set up word training, I set up word templates, and still I'm giving classes and personal help sessions. I'm about at my wits end because this is supposed to be a very small part of what I do each day . . .
