The Sword of the Lord has a book on Islam that you can order online at www.swordofthelord.com. Book info is listed below:

Dr. Smith, examines the religion history, philosophy, teaching and practice of Islam. In a thoroughly analytical expose he carefully documents the issues with Islam now facing our world. With a strongly Scriptural perspective, the contrast between Islam and Christianity is proclaimed clearly and uncompromisingly.

    PB417X
Islam-the Raging Storm (Dr. Shelton L. Smith)
    $4.95

Hope this helps in your search for material.

Thanks, with all that is going on in the world I think it would be a benefit to know what we are up against. I just saw a new tape from Osama Ben Ladan came out today. I don't know what is on it, but I am sure it cannot be anything good. I am SO sick of all this violence and senseless killing. Some days I just feel SO dragged down by the condition the world is in!!

Presumably this has to be in English.
Thankfully Annemarie Schimmel's Die Religion des Islam has been translated as: Islam an introduction.
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0791413284/qid=1099127086/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-9462641-2913423?v=glance&s=books
With German thoroughness (make that gründlichkeit) Schimmel explains the basics and complexities of Islam.
The link below gives some idea of her credentials (or lack of them) in this field.

Morey is the guy who came up with the notion that Allah is the former Arab pagan moongod isn't he? I know some Islamologists who think Robert Morey is the worst kind of charlatan.

Ergin and Emir Caner are two former muslims who are now Southern Baptist pastors. They have written several books on Islam. Here's a listing from Amazon.com:

Here's another link, couldn't get ChurchBoy's link to work -

    http://www.longschristian.com/longs/item_0825424003.htm

Voice of the Martyrs organization has quite a few books about Islam and a few other subjects, too - they aren't grouped together, though, you have to look through the site, but there is a synopsis about each book, some written by former Islamic women:

Here is a free online book ("Prophet of Doom") from a man who researched the Quran. It is very interesting and scary.

There is also another book from this same site called "Tea with Terrorists". I have not read it.

Morey is not considered a credible source on Islam by other experts on Islam or world religions.

I would recommend "Answering Islam: The Crescent in Light of the Cross"
by Norman L. Geisler and Abdul Saleeb

Of course, you do realize, Marcia, that themodernreligion.com web site is a Muslim site and they hate Morey and deny the moon-god truth, despite proof of historical and archeological evidence.

    From themodernreligion website:

But truth is truth, and I have heard Christian experts on Islam who also refute Morey. I just have not had time to find the links so put that one up.

I'm going out of town tomorrow for 5 days so will probably not get anything up on that. Since the moon god story is a point of contention, I personally think it is better to focus on solid differences between Islam and Christianity, such as the Islamic Allah vs. the God of the Bible. Bringing up the moon god thing does no good in witnessing.

Here is a good site by an Egyptian Christian giving a Christian response to Islam.

    http://www.thespiritofislam.com/index.html

I realize books were asked for in the OP, but thought some links might help as well.

Good article, "Is Allah the God of the Bible?"

Surely there must be some other reason then for the symbols of Islam to be the crescent moon and stars. Archeological and historical evidence should not be considered.

Here is a good website that will explain a lot if one cares to listen on line:

    http://www.vicmord.com

    Part I and Part II.

    Another web site:

Lady Eagle, even assuming the moon god theory is correct, I guess what I'm trying to say is that what is the point of using that in talking to a Muslim? It does not seem a good way to witness to try to persuade them their god was originally a moon god. I think it would be better to take other approaches.

For one thing, they have a lot of misconceptions about the Trinity. The Koran, I believe, teaches that Mary is part of the Trinity (I know this is a Muslim belief).

    Here are some more books:

_Muslims (How to Respond)_, By Ernest Hahn.

Hi, Marcia. The OP didn't mention anything about witnessing. ;) Would think the OP would have been on the witnessing/evangelism forum, if that was what was wanted.

    You're right, Lady Eagle! [IMG]

I guess my bend is just toward witnessing and I always end up going in that direction, trying to give people resources for that. [IMG]

I consider the link below to be one of the best, since it has many resources and links on Islam listed:
    http://www.apologeticsindex.org/i07.html

This link on the CARM site is also excellent, and provides a lot of info:
