I like to know how many people on this board are born baptist. Were you raised in a baptist church or did you come to the baptist church out of another denomination?

I have always gone to the Primitive Baptist church as long as I can remember. I never belonged to any other baptist church. Just taking a short survey... Brother Glen [IMG]

My mom's family was catholic, and my dad's baptist.
They decided to do nothing about it, and let us decide when we were grown. Something I would not have done.
We weren't raised in either church. But When my parents broke up we went to a Baptist church for a month or so, and then moved to Chicago with my grandmother, and grew up with catholic beliefs, and of course whenever we went to church it was catholic.
As an adult I didn't go to church untill I was 26. Baptist, my husband was raised in a Baptist church, but was never saved.
We were saved within a few months of going.

Raised in no religious background. Dad's family were nominal Jews. Mom had been saved as a teen, but not any real growth.

As a boy I searched for an answer to the hungering of my soul. Went with my non-jewish friends to Catholic and wanted to convert. When I hit puberty there was no way I was going to "confess" my deepest inner thoughts to a guy who dressed like my mother and wanted me to call him father.

Large Baptist in Minneapolis rented the bus and trolley system on Sunday to bring people to church. My parents were only too glad to put this obnoxious and talkative guy and my sister on a bus and get a couple hours of time away from us!

Saved on March 17th, 1957, and baptized a year later on Easter Sunday.

My parents were Southern Baptist and raised me as such. I can't remember a time when I didn't have faith in Christ. I was baptized in a Southern Baptist church when I was 10 years old. Since then I've been in a couple of other denominations.

When I was young my father was a penticostal minister. (and now, I am not sure I even spelled it right!) I attended his church until I was in my early teens. I remember those times as being very "intense" ... I used to worry .. as a young child .. that I had sinned and didn't know it and was going to go to hell. We wore our sleeves below out elbows, didn't cut our hair, my mother couldn't wear her wedding ring because it was a sign of "worshipping idols ..". Isn't it funny what you remember as being important. After I was married I rebeled and quit going to church all together.

I am sure you do not want to hear this entire story .... lol.

Fast forward a few hundred years and here I am in Ohio. I started attending church with da Gina! The Baptist church and I love it. Our church is independent ... our new pastor is great and we are learning more each time we go.

Born a sinner to parents in a Southern Baptist Church. Saved by grace at 9. Rebelled from church and Jesus through college and first few years of work and when I had children it struck me that I was not the parent to them my parents were to me (My mother is literally one of the best Christians I have ever known) and immediately repented and started back into church actively about 15 or so years back.
Left a very liberal SBC church that was more into politics than the Lord and joined a smaller church where the pastor is humble and a REAL Christian. I try to work hard providing the church with my gifts, which are mostly technical (sound, computers, business background, etc.). ...very happy to be back serving the Lord and sad that I missed MANY good years and set a bad influence for friends during that time. May Jesus forgive me. Always in Southern Baptist Churches. but often visited my Grandfather's Missionary Baptist Church.

Born a sinner into a Baptist Family, so I have been in a Baptist church all of my life. I received Christ as my personal Savior at five! Both sets of grandparents were French Catholics, and by the grace of God they were saved when my parents were both children and didn't know one another yet. I guess that makes me third generation Baptist, but of my own choosing. (And God's of course! ;) )

Born into a family that was very active in the Methodist church. One foot each in both the UMC and a Catholic church until I got saved and decided to go to a great Southern Baptist church.

Unfortunately, when I got saved I wasn't really discipled properly and left such a great church because I thought that God was found in experiences. I had pretty much boiled the Christian experience down to a few dopey bumper sticker type phrases so when hard times hit, I had no foundation for my faith and fell away for a few years.

A couple of friends, who had become ministers in the meantime, asked me to help him with the music at their new church. I agreed to play piano, guitar and arrange soloists for the church even though, spiritually, I was a wreck.

It turned out to be the greatest thing I've ever done. I had a great circle of support and Sam and Ed, my pastor friends, and some others in the church really encouraged me to grow in both prayer and Bible study and taught me how to put my faith into action.

I was born the child of a poor immigrant nominal Catholic and a searcher.

I went to a catholic church twice in my life, also to a Quaker church, a pentecostal holiness church, a nazarene church, an assembly of God church, and finally started attending a SBC church, where the Lord was preached, and I accepted Him.

I have been SBC ever since, by choice.

Born a lost sinner into a family where Pop-Pop was a retired minister in the Christian church. Baptized a lost sinner @ age nine. Finally received Christ as my Saviour 11 years ago after 4 years of marriage and 4 years of attending an Independent Baptist church. So, I've been saved and been a Baptist for an equal # of years! [IMG] How's that!

I was raised in a denominational Baptist Church and was saved and baptized at age 14. I rebelled and went my own way for the next 38 years. God was good to me because after 33 years of alcoholism and 40 years of smoking like a chimney, He healed me from both and He caused me to seek a church. I found an Independant Baptist Church where I felt like the prodigal son. I rejoice in His mercy and goodness and now can truly say I am a believer in Jesus Christ and He is my Lord and Savior. I will worship Him up to and with my last breath. I have been blessed to lead three elderly "old school Catholics" to salvation in Jesus Christ and believe me, there is nothing like it. :D :D :D Well, I've rattled on enough. Thanks for your wonderful testimonies.

    Agape,

    Mike

I was raised up in a Baptist church but was allowed to explore other churches as long as I came in and told my Mother what we had learned. Then she took me to the scripture to make sure that what I learned was in the scripture and that I was not being lead astray. When I was 16 I was Baptized by water. When I was 42 I was lead by the Holy Spirit and I learned to seek our Lord. I had a lot of lost years but the good Lord was standing right beside me the whole time I was lost. The Lord is so good to us and we are so blind to it. Now I serve the Lord. My husband and I go to a small Baptist Church here in East Texas.

I was born and raised attending an IFB church, it was our second home. I was born again at the age of eight and baptized as a member of that church at the age of nine. I am now a member of a Southern Baptist church, but in all honesty I only go twice a month because my husband works the other two Sundays and I hate to go to church by myself. So, on the other two Sundays I go to church with my parents, which is 30 miles away, at an IFB church. [IMG]
