We are more concerned when American troops commit atrocities than when they perform bravely and well.

This is because, I suppose, we expect them to perform bravely and well, but we are horrified when they do evil.

This is understandable, and we should be more concerned about atrocities. But we should also remember those who did not crack under the pressure and commit crimes.

Don't forget to thank a veteran. And encourage the media with letters to tell what is going on that is good in Iraq, not just the failures.
