Not pretty, but had to be done. Praying for our President.

Trump: Until There’s ‘A Wall and Proper Security, We’re Going to Be Guarding our Border with the Military’

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, President Trump stated that until there is “a wall and proper security, we’re going to be guarding our border with the military.” Trump said, “I’ve been speaking with General Mattis. We’re going to be.....

Pardon my ignorance but I'm curious how they will stage it. Isn't it private property all along the border? Are there any existing military bases near the border?

I like the idea. Ron Paul was a big advocate of it.

I think our military leadership has the same questions. From reports I have seen, they just heard about this plan when the President promised it.

Isn't it private property all along the border?
Yes, that's absolutely true. That private property also includes cities and residential neighborhoods directly on the Rio Grande.

Are there any existing military bases near the border?
  • Laughlin AFB is near Del Rio (a city literally on the border).
  • Fort Bliss is near El Paso (another city literally on the border).
  • Fort Huachuca is located a short distance from the border in Arizona.
  • There are also a number of Navy Bases in the San Diego area, a short distance from the border.
Of course, many illegal aliens do not cross the southern border illegally. Their status changes later.

"..."Where Congress Stands On the Posse Comitatus Act
On Oct. 25, 2005, the House of Representatives and Senate enacted a joint resolution (H. CON. RES. 274) clarifying Congress' stance on the effect of the Posse Comitatus Act on the use of the military on U.S. soil. In part, the resolution states "by its express terms, the Posse Comitatus Act is not a complete barrier to the use of the Armed Forces for a range of domestic purposes, including law enforcement functions, when the use of the Armed Forces is authorized by Act of Congress or the President determines that the use of the Armed Forces is required to fulfill the President's obligations under the Constitution to respond promptly in time of war, insurrection, or other serious emergency."..."
Posse Comitatus Act and the US Military on the Border

Will he use the National Guard? Declare martial law? Get congressional approval? Will he have any support in congress?

Wait & see, this'll be another big kerfuffle.

As long as catch and release is the order of the day, it doesn't matter who he sends to the border. The result will be the same. More illegal aliens laughing as they go free in the states.

Can't refugees merely say they are seeking asylum in the US and by law we have to let them in?

Quick question: What is the political obsession -- which I believe started with Candidate Trump -- with the idea that people of other nations are "laughing" at us?

That sounds like an extreme lack of self-esteem.

I believe they have to be actually in the country. The answer to this is simple - we do not let them touch American soil.

They will figure it out. Guess they will patrol it the same way border patrol does.

Congratulations, you have my vote for the dumbest statement today.

Didn't Gov. Rick Perry once send the national guard to patrol the Texas/Mexican border? Maybe they've got some useful information to share.

I would expect there'd be more to it than just 'more bodies' on the ground. Don't you think? Drones? Satelite surveillance? What else? Besides more manpower what does the military give that the Border Patrol doesn't have?
They give extra quantity, but Border Patrol already has drones.

FYI, per Rush, there's a reporter (don't recall who with) embedded in this caravan that is saying that the Mexican authorities are doing ZILCH to stop it. The 'splintering' into smaller groups is to make it less visible, AND, the actual number is around 5000 immigrants, not 1200 as originally reported.

I've heard that too, but also conflicting info.

But the important thing is the national guard on the border. They border patrol wanted this and are very happy about it.
