British Rockers Openly Blaspheme Christ.

With all due respect, why are you giving them publicity (probably what they were trying to get by their statements) by posting this?

 

Ever heard of "black metal"? It's been around since the early 1980's and is openly dark/demonic heavy, fast music that glorifies evil and even the devil himself. I mean, with band names like Rotting Christ, Legion, Impaled Nazarene and others, the story about the British band is lightweight in comparison.

It's that same sticky situation we find ourselves in each time we face the choice of having a public confrontation of evil or a private one.

At first glance, this band sounds like they might be making these controversial statements in order to get publicity (like Madonna has always done and the producers of "The Last Temptation of Christ" did). Often the best way to oppose someone who needs publicity is to ignore them.

(In my opinion, Christians did more to drive interest toward "Last Temptation of Christ" by their over-reaction than they would have if they had staged very low-key protests and advanced thoughtful spokespeople to discuss the issues of temptation and sin in the public forum instead of the nearly hysterical outrage and public offers to buy the film and burn it (i.e., Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ).)

Regarding death metal and satanic metal music, I've had quite a few people tell me that they first got introduced to those obscure bands by Christians holding rock music seminars that gave the bands publicity by talking about how evil their music was.

Each situation demands it's own response. That why I was asking about this group. Is this group already popular and have a wide following? If so, Christians may want to carefully confront the issues. If not, Christians should probably ignore them.

I think it's sophistry to say that we should ignore ills and evils in order not to promote them. It's kind of like saying if we refuse to acknowledge racism, it will just go away. Well, it got there before we acknowledged it, just like this rock group did what they did before it was "recognized."

The trick is we need to stay focused on the problem and its real solution, not on sophistry.

The answer is very easy:
With a band name as innocuous as the one mentioned above, how else would all of us know about it? I noticed that someone referenced Impaled Nazarene - that one is obvious.
