World War II was not a "War on Naziism". The Allies won the war but Nazis still exist.

The Cold War was not a "War on Communism". The West won the war but Communists still exist.

The current conflagration should be called, I think, the War With al Qaeda. Even if we defeat al Qaeda, terrorists will still exist.

Thanks -- now I have to research what WWII was called before it ended.

And, do appreciate your signature. Good reading.

I think it's an oxymoronic slogan.

Honestly, what it is about is feeling all warm and fuzzy. If you dig deep enough into the arguments for these type things it is always centered around someone's "feelings".

    War -> Terror

    Yeah, that's convoluted, ok.

With as simple an explanation, what causes war?

Context: I was explaining why the slogan "War on Terror" was oxymoronic (which is simple); I was not trying to explain the causes of terror (one of which is war).

    Yeah, it is.

War and acts of terror are not the same thing, although war could induce terror in a person, it is not a terrorist act in and of itself.

    No one claimed they were.

Or in region of people or even in a poplace.

    No one claimed it was.

Remove that which no one claimed and you remove the convolutions.

You also remove any possibility of the term "War on Terror" being an oxymoron.

No, war causes terror - simple and straightforward.

The slogan is War on Terror, not War on Terrorists.

You can call the WoT painting by numbers if you want, it'd still be a WoT.

Why this is a no-no all of a sudden, I dunno. The UK explains this by:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/12/11/nterr11.xml

They parse the term on end, Whatever.

"We tend to emphasize upholding shared values as a means to counter terrorists," the spokesman was quoted as saying.

    Oh yeah, that'll work.

The government-backed British Muslim Forum meanwhile is teaching Muslims that dying while fighting for Britain's armed forces is an act of martyrdom rather than one of a traitor, which extremists insist it is, it was reported.

How could this BMF be any dumber? Not only are they naive, but queerly, blindly, Britishly naive.
