Following the Civil War, those who viewed Blacks differently than Whites passed laws to discriminate against Blacks. These are now called Jim Crow laws. The Supreme Court ruled that "separate but equal" did not violate the Constitution. And so the USA became a segregated society. We had different schools, drinking fountains, and bathrooms.

In 1954, this view was overturned by Brown versus the Board of Education. Mr. Eisenhower was President. Now Mr. Truman is routinely given credit for "de-segregating" the military because he started the process, but it was on Mr. Eisenhower's watch that the process was completed.

SCOTUS ruled that separate was inherently unequal and thus unconstitutional. The decision was unanimous.

But an interesting fact is that before SCOTUS ruled, the schools on military bases had all been de-segregated by President Eisenhower.

Then of course there is that famous Saturday Evening Post cover painting by Norman Rockwell showing a little black girl walking to school between two United States Soldiers sent by Ike.

Ike had his flaws, like all our Presidents, but he gave us during his lifetime, our honor, our liberty and our lives.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, President Kennedy relied upon his inner circle for advice, primarily Bobby. He only called one person from outside his party for advice. Ike said he did not think Khrushchev would go to nuclear war over Cuba. And the rest as they say is history.

The bible teaches that wisdom is the skill of choosing a sound way forward.

I see my memory seems to have failed me, in that the following quote appears to miss the mark.

Here is a link to the actual painting and an interview is the actual little girl, some years later:

Wait a minute - are you saying Roe vs Wade was NOT the first major SCOTUS case to be overturned?

Putting words into the mouths of others, when you know they do not reflect the other person's actual view is wrong.

Dred Scott overturned by 13th and 14th Amendment.

Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) Overturned by Brown.
