Looks like North Korea might be planning to include launching a satellite with its ICBM test. If North Korea proves that it does have a missile that can reach the United States then this becomes a much, much more serious situation than any concern that one may have about Iran. North Korea supposedly already has nuclear weapons and if they can stick a satellite on an ICBM then I imagine that they can stick a nuclear warhead on an ICBM. Unfortunately, there appear to be basically no options to stop North Korea from the direction it is taking without the help of China and South Korea. At the moment, they don't appear willing to help.

Based on the observed trends North Korea is clearly determined to use its launch vehicles and the associated weapons systems they carry as the instrument of State Policy leaving little room to hope that North Korea’s leadership will change its end game plans to the world’s desires. North Korea suggested on the 18th that its people should raise the North Korean (DPRK) flag and stay tuned to their radio’s and TV’s for an announcement from the State media around 5:00 GMT perhaps related to the up coming launch vehicle flight. Previously this web site has reported that the Taep’o-dong-2C/3 launch was expected soon because of both the engineering progress subtly identified from both static test firings, launch site additions and the flight test of the No-dong-B on January 17th, 2006 out of Iran for both North Korea and Iran.

Well, I've seen this one coming for a looooonnnng time, Ken.

North Korea was the big reason I was against us invading Iraq. I really didn't believe Saddam had half what he wanted us to believe he had and I did believe a nuclear North Korea would end up being a bigger threat just at a time when we were spread to thin to do anything about them.

    I hate being right! :(

If the website I linked is accurate then the launch should take place within the next 24 hours.

I'm glad that I have always been a supporter of SDI ever since President Reagan proposed it.

I think that if they do launch that long-range missile, we should test our defenses by shooting it down!

Thanks for posting this, Ken. Though I know you and I disagree regarding Iran, I believe that North Korea also presents a threat, and obviously a more imminent one. I like JFox's suggestion. MK is right too, this is no surprise at all as they have been moving toward this with the Taepo Dong.

Hey, what's keeping the neocons from launching a blistering assault on Pyongyang?

Does drawing a square moustache on Li'l Kim's face help?

N.Korea can't have weapons because they have been attacking nations thousands of miles away over the last 30 years.

We can have weapons because we have been peaceful for the last 30 years away and havn't attacked any nation a thousand miles from our borders.

North Korea can't have weapons because they are a danger to themselves as well as others. Who was it let thousands of their own people starve rather than ask the West for help? Do we really want a country with so little compassion for their own people to have the capability of killing millions with long range nuclear weapons?

It may be that BW simply trusts the North Koreans with such weapons more than he trusts the U.S.
