Bush Administration Refused Iran's Help Againt al Qaeda

If this is true, we were right to reject Iran's cooperation. First, how many of us have decried our nation's alliance with the rebels who defeated the USSR when they invaded Afghanistan, though those rebels turned out to be perps in the 9/11 attacks? I'd hate to think that years from now, this is another association we'd be coming to regret. Also, Iran could not exactly have pure motives in cooperating with us. They want to rule the region. Iran's tentacles needed to be kept to a minimum. We must reject the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" mentality that has cost us dearly.

 

I take it you don't believe Iran deserves that designation. Is their role positive or negative (apparently you don't like the words "good" and "evil" when applied to nations)? At what point did their leadership, not just descendants of those who took Americans hostage but one of those very participants, become benign? Was it importing nuclear and ballistic missile technology from Russia and China? Was it threatening oil shipping which required American escorts? Was it financing terrorists bombing buses in Israel? Was it the placement of Chinese Silkworm anti-ship missiles at the entrance to the Persian Gulf (been through there on a ship--it's no fun going through there with that knowledge), and now more sophisticated missiles?

Ken, if they're not part of an axis of evil, pray tell what kind of axis are they are a part of of??? Do they have to be shooting missiles at us before we consider a sworn enemy our enemy?

 

Actually, they have shot missiles at us. The Hawk missiles Reagan gave them in the lost hope that they might release our kidnapped CIA people, were fired at our aircraft during the last unpleasantness in the Persian Gulf shipping lanes.

 

Why would they want help against an enemy of their own creation that they would later be using for the justification for everything they were planning to do are doing have already done and will do in the future?

They'd would have been crazy to kill the goose that would later be laying their golden egg.
