Bush promoting ban on gay marriage

"He believes the institution of marriage is between a man and a woman," White House spokesman Tony Snow told reporters. "The president's made it clear what he wants. He would like to see the Senate pass the bill."

As far as I'm concerned, this is nothing more than a slick ploy to get the conservative base back in his corner, after her trampled all over us with the immigration issue. Trudge up an issue that appeals to the base and they'll come back. The bill doesn't have to pass, he just has to back it. I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid, though.

 

This issue is not gonna get his base fired up until the radical left starts shooting off their mouths.

Follow the money. Can't have homosexuals demanding equal pay for equal work. Would screw up the benefits packages of all emloyers including the govt.

This is just Bush posturing to his base. He has botched the war in Iraq. He is against any real immigration reform and he has watched his approval rate plummet. Now, out of the blue he is pushing this anti-gay legislation. Just like most everything else he has done this is doomed to failure.

You are partially correct about this. If the liberals would pretty much ignore this and focus on the immigration issue and offering a better solution, his poll numbers would go down into single digits. But the Liberals just can't help themselves and they are gonna go crazy over this issue and cause his numbers to go back up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Howard Dean continue to make a fool out of himself about this issue. In fact, Dean is the best friend Bush has in the Democratic party. However, I think this ploy by Bush is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Rove's polls must be really bad news for Bush. Gay-baiting is when they get panicky. Bush, from all indications, is no enemy of gays. He invited them to the White House, praised them, and appointed them to positions in his administration.

But hey, friendship with Bush is conditional...

I don't think, thankfully, it will ever pass. I know I will encourage my Representive and Senator's to vote against it.

 

Two reasons. First, I don't think it is the governments business how people conduct their lives as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Second, I despise how Bush will use these wedge issues to cover up his ineptitude in governing.

 

Very well stated! I don't understand how people can so easily promote more government intrusion into the private lives of the citizens. The fix for everything we may not like is not to get the government involved.
