The chief of intelligence for the Marine Corps in Iraq recently filed an unusual secret report concluding that the prospects for securing that country's western al Anbar province are dim and that there is almost nothing the U.S. military can do to improve the political and social situation there, said several military officers and intelligence officials familiar with its contents...One Army officer summarized it as arguing that in Anbar province, "We haven't been defeated militarily but we have been defeated politically -- and that's where wars are won and lost."...
Devlin reports that there are no functioning Iraqi government institutions in Anbar, leaving a vacuum that has been filled by the insurgent group al-Qaeda in Iraq, which has become the province's most significant political force, said the Army officer, who has read the report. Another person familiar with the report said it describes Anbar as beyond repair; a third said it concludes that the United States has lost in Anbar.

    How is this "better?"

Short answer : It is not better

Bush does not inspire confidence at all ...since he has never been an honest broker and has seen more potential for his cronies to keep the country divided...if bush does not reach out for help to those who see more potential in building bridges and agreement in obvious areas of agreement then he could be on the the short term list of worst president ever and only history can write the long term.

Rumor has it James Bakker is going to the oval office to ask bush to change course in Iraq (intervention) either that is a contrived conspiracy on the part of republicans not to lose their shirt or bush really does need an intervention on Iraq...personally I hope he is successful.

Well the leaders of Iraq and Iran met today in Iran and the Iraqi leader asked Iran to help get rid of the "outside insurgents" or something like that, so that the Americans can leave soon. As per Fox News.

So, I deduce several possible scenarios to come out of this meeting....

Wow. Deja vu all over again. As Reagan learned, dealing with Iran for favors always has a steep price...
