In late August, Democrats in the California legislature and Governor agreed to a deal that would impose a limit on all greenhouse gas emissions. As reported by the Associated Press, "The bill would require the state’s major industries—such as utility plants, oil and gas refineries, and cement kilns—to reduce their emissions of the pollutants widely believed to contribute to global warming."

Among the many problems involved with this deal is the fact that there is no global warming as defined by environmentalists, i.e., a sharp, scientifically predictable increase in the Earth’s overall temperature in the years, decades, and centuries ahead. After touting a coming Ice Age in the 1970s, the Greens reversed course and began to conjure up global warming. Basing public policy on a hoax has become the political choice of Democrats....

The Democrat Party, intellectually and morally bankrupt as this point in its history, has decided to embrace environmentalism’s biggest lies because they will provide a new basis to attack the industrial heart of the nation’s economy.

Ignoring the real threat, the worldwide Islamic Jihad, Democrats will attempt to distract Americans with scary stories about the future climate of the Earth....

There is no need for the control of greenhouse gas emissions. Even with such controls, the climate of the Earth will be determined by known cycles of solar activity, by known cycles of oceanic activity, by known cycles of hurricane activity, by forces far beyond the control or influence of human activity....

California is about to commit eco-suicide and wants the rest of the nation to join it. The business and industry that will flee the Golden State to is incalculable. The danger of these anti-energy policies to the future of the nation is beyond comprehension.

We will be able to observe the fleeing or rising of industry over the next few years. Some will surely leave because of the restrictions and others will come in that either like the change or don't mind. The net loss or gain is yet to be seen.

Unfortunately it will be difficult to measure the effects on greenhouse gases since the atmosphere isn't purely a local phenomenon. But some immediate changes to the local environment might be visible.

I applaud the effort but I understand that others like KenH don't see the need. I will not argue with you about whether the need is real or not.

I am glad California is doing this. Maybe they'll send some of their jobs to us in Arkansas.

It's a political gesture. And it will make an almost-unmeasurable difference in the amount of human-produced warming.

Now if this ain't one of the oddest responses . . . I will allude to arguing about your post - but I won't argue . . .

Kinda like going to a gunfight and killin' one of the other side and then dropping your six-shooter and saying, "I don't wanna kill no one."

    ;)

Personally, I still think that global warming is part man made and part earth warming up for the coming Apocalypse. Both were seen by God thousands of years ago.

I believe it is manmade and that impacts my response to KenH's post.

KenH believes that it isn't manmade.

We have different perspectives on the impact of California's decision and are able to post those thoughts without arguing about our underlying disagreement that impacts how we view California's decision.

KenH works for an oil company. Even if it is not intentional, this fact will probably affect his judgment on the issue at hand.

We are quite international, Terry. Regardless, I have read up on the global warming controversy and, so far, I find the "Chicken Little" crowd's evidence to be, well, underwhelming.

Seems to me that each environmental improvement has been met with resistance from industry and also from "conservatives". For example, when they proposed taking lead out of gasoline I remember a lot of folks predicting horrors in car performance. Catalytic converters caused a lot of complaints about the R&D development costs. But in the end, we've always adjusted and it's a good thing not having as much lead spewing out into the environment.

I try to distinguish between what is real and what is hocus pocus. Saving endangered species seems like good stewardship to me. So does limiting pollution. Regardless of whether human contribute to global warming or not.

    Within reason, yes.
