Can someone please explain the difference between "LORD" and "Lord" in the Bible? Some people might not know. [IMG]

Whenever you see the word "LORD", it means that the biblical writer has used the divine name, YHVH (or YHWH). Instead of uttering the divine name (lest it be used carelessly), Jewish tradition was to substitute the word "Lord" (that is, "Adonai") when reading the text.

In the English translations, the word Lord is rendered in all caps when the Hebrew actually uses the divine name.

In some translations the tetragrammaton (YHWH) is translated LORD in small caps. The word for master (/donay/ - I'd have to check) is translated "lord". Other translations, out of a desire to represent the holiness and unsayability of the name of god, simply print YHWH.

Orthodox Jewish readers say "Ha Shem" or "the name" when reading the name of God aloud.
