Calvinism has a higher view of man

Example # 1

A man is born with some disease which makes him unable to love God. He, because of this disease, does not have the ability to want God, respond to God, but only hate the idea of God.

Example # 2

A man is born with the ability to love God but freely chooses not to. Even though this man hears the gospel and can choose or reject God he only chooses to reject God and live his life on his own terms.

Which man is worse?

The man in example # 2 is worse because he can choose to love God but refuses to.

The man in example # 1 is a victim of the disease and has no control over his actions on his own.

The man in example # 1 is a picture of the Calvinist view of man. He has no choice and will suffer the consequences of that nature. This is a higher view of man that that of those who reject the Calvinist view of man.

So the claim often made by Calvinists that those who reject their unbiblical view of man holds a higher view of man is false. We in fact have a much, much lower view of man than Calvinists do.
