Camera help needed

    I'm buying one next week. I have been doing work as a freelance writer, and am contracting with a company that wants high quality photo's with the articles.
    They need to be high enough quality that he can enlarge and print them for distribution.

    So I'm looking for a good digital camera. Would like 12mp's.

    I got all excited as I looked at a Canon Powershot G9, because it had a link to a great camera...a Nikon Dx2. Figuring it would be around the same price, I stuck it on my list. HA! Dream on, right? That was my laugh of the morning!

    Anyhow, what do people here think of the Canon G9?

    Do you have other suggestions?

    I am prejudiced against the Olympus brand. I don't know why. I think the name itself just annoys me. (I'm weird like that) Is there any reason to change my mind on that brand? It has the word "limp" and "pus" in it. EW

    A lot of the photos being taken will be taken in places like art galleries, theaters, and community events. Many will be of people or artwork, displays of artwork so clarity is very important. For example, if I take a picture of a jewelry display, I need to be able to enlarge the photo online without loss of detail, or if there's a painting, the changes in the color shading should come through with good clarity.

    I'd appreciate any input on this.

    I don't have any camera advice, I use the lowly Sony Cybershot, with the Car Ziess (sp?) lens....

    But it is VERY cool to see you, Gina. I hope things are well with you & the daughters.

    My profession is that of a pro photographer, sounds like you could use a Cannon Rebel with a zoom lens.

    Digital Cameras

    I have a Nikon D-80 and love it. It is my first high end digital. I have 2 Nikon and 1 Hasselblad film cameras from long ago. I am partial to Nikon but Canon is a solid camera also. 10MP should be fine for publication. My Nikon D-80 has more features that I will ever use. Canon lenses are less expensive than Nikon so that may be a consideration for you to look at.

    Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Olympus all make great DSLRs. I would not discount Oly...they have the best dust reduction technology going, and their new cams (E-510, E-3) have the in-camera shake reduction, so it works with any lens you put on the camera.

    The Nikon ones do have my attention. I'm really leaning toward the Canon for a starter though, and thinking of Nikon for something to achieve in the future...the one I listed in my first post. hehe...I'd have to shoot myself if I ever spent that much on a camera while there were still people in this world going hungry though.

    The more I look at the two Canon ones I listed, the more I like them. I'd just like to figure out if the extra hundred is for a reason, and if that reason is worth it.
